    ANNOUNCEMENTS
    Thursday, April 9
    • Fayette County Home and Community Education Get Acquainted Day in the St. Elmo United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Registration will be 9 a.m., and a potluck brunch is at 9:30 a.m. There will be a Make It, Bake It, Sew It, Grow It auction for the major fundraiser. Each of the seven units is to take a gift for a door prize.
    • Lunch Bunch, noon, Mary Ann’s Restaurant.

  • Exxon/Mobil Annuitants

      The ExxonMobil Annuitants Club met on March 26 at Maverick Restaurant in Litchfield, with 27 members and four guests present. Following the pledge to the flag, the meal prayer was given by Brock Fisher.
    After the meal, the meeting was called to order by President Dean Black. The secretary’s reports from January and February were read and approved, followed by the treasurer’s report. It was reported that the check from ExxonMobil was received and deposited.

  • Birthday Open House

    Kay Dothager
    An open house will be held from 1:30-4 p.m. this Sunday at the Mulberry Grove Community Building to celebrate the 75th birthday of Kay Dothager.
    The family requests no gifts.

  • Golden Circle Menus

    Golden Circle Nutrition Program, located at 616 W. Jackson St. in Vandalia, provides meals in a comfortable setting to people 60 years and older and their spouses. There are no income guidelines or any type of restrictions besides the age limit.  Meals are prepared by Deb’s Catering of Altamont and delivered fresh daily. The suggested donation is $2.60 for meals.

  • Family YMCA Holds Grand Raffle

    The Family Y of Fayette County held its Grand Raffle on March 28 at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.

  • Ruemmelin application deadline is May 1

    The deadline for several Vandalia organizations to apply for  funds from the Charles J. Ruemmelin Foundation deadline is May 1.
    Charles J. Ruemmelin, a quiet man with piercing brown eyes, spent many of his working hours at the Fayette County Courthouse, where he researched and prepared abstracts of title. Not active in civic organizations, he moved to Springfield to live near his sister after his mother’s death.

    South Central 16, BSE 0
    South Central scored eight runs in both the first and second innings on their way five-inning win over Brownstown/St. Elmo in baseball action last Wednesday.

    ✔ The Vandalia Park District Board of Commissioners will meet at 4 p.m. in the conference room of the Okaw Area Vocational Center, located on the Vandalia Community High School campus.

  • Foxworth is speaker at final Lenten Luncheon

    The final Lenten Luncheon of the year was held at Northside Christian Church, with the message of this year’s theme, “The Good News That Brought Christ to the Cross.”
