  • County hikes fees

    Upon receiving the results of a cost study recommending that the county increase many of its fees, the Fayette County Board approved those increases.
    The board also approved an agreement to have the firm that performed that cost analysis to serve as an operations consultant to the county.
    Bruce DeLashmit of the Bloomington-based Bellwether LLC told board members that the cost study of the county clerk and sheriff offices showed that fee increases are needed.

  • St. Peter woman hurt in wreck early Tuesday

    A St. Peter woman was injured in a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 70 at Vandalia early Tuesday morning.
    According to Vandalia Police reports, a city officer responded to an accident just west of Ill. Route 185 and Janett Avenue.
    Police said that Jaclyn Wieda, 20, was driving east on Interstate 70 when she lost control of her vehicle, went into the median and crossed both westbound lanes.
    The vehicle then entered a ditch on the north side of I-70, became airborne and landed on County Road 1660 North, coming to rest in a cornfield, according to police.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log

    • Reginald Howard, 38, Walton Beach, Fla., was arrested on July 8 on charges of fleeing or attempting to elude police, speeding, driving while his license is suspended or revoked, unlawful use of a weapon and resisting a peace officer. Bond was $15,000.
    • Charles E. Evans, 60, Farina, was arrested on July 8 on a charge of disorderly conduct. Bond was $1,500.

    A Vandalia student is among 86 business and management students at the University of Illinois Springfield inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society chapter.
    Noah Emerick was inducted into the chapter during a ceremony on Saturday, April 8, in Brookens Auditorium.
    Beta Gamma Sigma is the international honor society serving business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

  • Brownstown again offering school registration online

    The Brownstown School District is again be offering online registration for all Brownstown students, grades K-12.
    Online registration will be available through July 31. Parents are reminded that they will still need to attend registration on August 8 to fill out medical information and pay any registration fees.  
    By registering online, parents will be able to update all student information and save time on registration day.
