    Massage therapy clinic opens to public

    The Kaskaskia College Massage Therapy Clinic will be open to the public as of this week.
    The clinic is open on Wednesdays until May 4 (except March 9, for spring break) and select Saturdays. Available times on Wednesdays are 3:15-7 p.m.
    Saturday appointments run from 9:15 a.m.-1 p.m. Available Saturday clinic dates are Feb. 12 and 26, March 19 and April 2, 16 and 30. Services available are:  Swedish massage in 25-minute or 50-minute sessions, and hot stone massage in 50-minute sessions.

  • Health department closed this week for move to new home

    The Fayette Council Health Department is closed for the remainder of this week as it works to complete the move into its new home.
    The health department will continue moving its employees currently working out of its home at 509 W. Edwards St. into the former Leo Brown Lumber building at 416 W. Edwards St.
    Employees of the health department who were working out of a building in the 100 block of North Fifth Street moved into the new FCHD home a couple of weeks ago.
    The health department plans to reopen next Monday at its new home.

  • Head Start sets open house dates

    CEFS Head Start is holding open houses on Thursday, Feb. 17, from 4-7 p.m., and Friday, Feb. 18, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the local Head Start center.
    Families with children age 5 and under are invited to check out the Head Start classroom and fill out an application. The Fayette County Head Start Center is located at 1410 Sunset Drive, Suite F in Vandalia.

  • Sorghum vote under way at FSA office

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture will conduct the sorghum referendum on the continuation of the Sorghum Checkoff Program from Feb. 1-28 at the Fayette County FSA office.
    For the program to continue, the Sorghum Promotion, Research and Information Order requires that a referendum be conducted no later than three years after the start of assessments, which began July 1, 2008.
    The order requires a simple majority vote.
    Ballots may be obtained from the FSA office, located at 301 S. Third St. in Vandalia, or on the Internet at www.ams.usda.gov/sorghumpage.

    • Debbie S. Pfeffer, 38, Hume, was arrested on Feb. 7 on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. Bond was $30,000.
    • Barton L. Cothern, 49, RR 1, Ramsey, was arrested on Feb. 7 on charges of manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of more than 900 grams of methamphetamine and possession of a weapon by a felon. Bond was $250,000.
    • Norman C. Keller, 43, Pana, was arrested on Feb. 7 on charges of manufacture of methamphetamine and possession of more than 900 grams of methamphetamine. Bond was $250,000.
