    A Vandalia man who failed to appear in court for his jury trial on child pornography charges has decided to let a judge render a verdict.

  • Farmers have until next Monday to provide census data online

    The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service reminds this nation’s farmers and ranchers that the deadline for the 2017 Census of Agriculture is one week away.
    Producers should respond online at www.agcounts.usda.gov or by mail by Feb. 5. The online questionnaire offers new timesaving features.
    The Census of Agriculture is the only NASS questionnaire mailed to every producer across the country and is conducted just once every five years.

    • Phillip L. Edwards, 36, 424 S. Superior St., Ramsey, was arrested on Jan. 29 on a charge of driving while his license is suspended or revoked. Bond was $1,500.
    • Tony L. Krueger, 22, Beecher City, was arrested on Jan. 29 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $2,500.
    • Ashley R. Storck, 34, 215 N. Olive St., St. Elmo, was arrested on Jan. 29 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $1,500.
    • James W. Berner, 37 811 S. Front St., Ramsey, was arrested on Jan. 29 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $1,500.

    • A 15-year-old Vandalia resident was arrested on charges of residential burglary and burglary from a motor vehicle (two counts).
    Jan. 27
    • Braxton T. Lucas, 25, Vandalia, was arrested at 3 a.m. for failure to comply with sex offender registration, for an alleged violation of bail bond and on a charge of obstruction of justice.
    • Trishena L. Berning, 31, was arrested at 1 a.m. in the 400 block of North Kennedy Boulevard on a charge of driving while her license is suspended.

    Vandalia’s wrestlers picked up three more dual team wins on Saturday to improve to 24-3 on the season, but still dropped in the unofficial state rankings.

  • Seventh-graders win regional title

    Less than a week after winning the conference title, the Vandalia seventh-grade boys won their regional and advanced to sectional play next Wednesday.

  • Lady Vandals top Litchfield; go 3-1 at Effingham

    Olivia Marquardt scored 24 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Lady Vandals defeated Litchfield, 50-33, in a home contest on Monday.

  • Aces survive late SEB run

    Mulberry Grove used five three-pointers to build a 10-point lead after one quarter on Friday, then held off a last-minute push to edge St. Elmo/Brownstown, 65-60.
