  • Holy Cross Confirmation Class

    On Sunday, May 22, three young people and three adults were recently received into communicant membership at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.     Recently, a pastor and his small flock made the news by announcing the date of the second coming of Jesus Christ. They were so sure of the date that many of his followers gave away their possessions, quit their day jobs and “hunkered down” in anticipation of the Parousia – the second coming of the Lord.

    Daniel Christopher Vernon
    Chris and Krisjeana Vernon of St. Peters, Mo., are the parents of a boy born at 7:24 p.m. on Monday, March 28, 2011, at BJC St. Peters Hospital in St. Peters, Mo.
    He weighed 8 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20½ inches long. He was named Daniel Christopher.
    Grandparents are Donnie and Connie Roberts  of Ramsey and the late Burel Ballard, and Dave and Liz Vernon of Dupo.
    Great-grandparents are Jean Moreland and Lucy Ballard of Ramsey and Anne Hetzel of Cahokia.

  • Engagement

    Nicole Opfer and Blake Doehring have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The future bride is the daughter of Craig and Amy Opfer of rural Shobonier.

  • Anniversary

    Bryan and Kim Perkins will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with a luncheon from 2-4 p.m. at Connie’s on Saturday.


    Bryan Perkins and the former Kim Harrison were married on June 14, 1986.
    He is the son of Connie and the late Harold Perkins. She is the daughter of Phyllis and Larry May and the late Don Harrison.
    They are the parents of four children: Luke, Lacey, Lance and Lexis.
    Friends and family are welcome to attend.

  • Dean's List

    SIUE
    Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has announced the names of students qualifying for the dean’s list for spring semester 2011.
    To qualify, a student must maintain a grade-point average of 3.5 or better and have 12 hours calculated (B is equivalent to 3.0; A to 4.0).
    The students on the dean’s list include:
    • Brownstown – Kaitlyn Jo Kramer and Hannah Elizabeth Wrigley.
    • Farina – Meghan S. Glaspell.
    • Fillmore – Kiley S. Havera.

  • College Graduates

    ITT Technical Institute
    Derek Woolsey of Vandalia graduated from ITT Technical Institute in Earth City, Mo., on March 31.
    The commencement exercises were held at the Marriott Airport Grand Ballroom in St. Louis.
    Woolsey, the son of Kent and Tammy Woolsey, received a bachelor's degree in information systems security. He is a 2006 graduate of Vandalia Community High School.
