  • Ladies' Tea at First Presbyterian

    First Presbyterian Church, located at 1221 W. Fillmore St. in Vandalia, is hosting a Ladies' Tea at 12:30 p.m. this Saturday.
    The women of the church are inviting community women, including mothers and daughters, to this event.
    A light lunch will be served, and the tea will include guest speakers.

  • Winning with Christ

    It’s a new season for baseball fans. This past week, the Cubs played the Cardinals. At this writing, the Cubs won the first game and are ahead in the second. Cubs fans are sure it is there year to win the pennant. Cards fans say it’s a long season – beat us early in the season, yet we will win in October.

  • National Week of Prayer observance begins Sunday

    This year’s National Week of Prayer observance in Vandalia begins on Sunday evening and continues through next Thursday.
    The schedule is as follows:
    • Sunday – Worship and prayer service at Northside Christian Church, 6 p.m.
    • Monday – City of Vandalia prayer services at Vandalia Chamber of Commerce Tourism Center, 7:30 a.m.
    • Tuesday – School prayer service in Vandalia Community High School gym, 7:30 a.m.
    • Wednesday – Fayette County prayer service at Fayette County Courthouse, 7:30 a.m.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log

    • Levi C. McWhorter, 20, 123 N. Eighth St., Vandalia, was arrested on April 26 on a charge of theft more than $300. He was being held awaiting the setting of bond.
    • Marjorie G. Lara, 43, Alma, was arrested on April 26 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $8,000.
    • Jasmine J. Crawford, 20, St. Louis, Mo., was arrested on April 26 on charges of speeding, following too closely, driving without a valid license, no valid registration, improper use of registration and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. Bond was $1,500.

  • Y's Healthy Kids Day is Saturday

    On Saturday, from 9 a.m.-noon, the Family YMCA of Fayette County is holding a free community event to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active. This year marks the 25th annual YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve health and well being for kids and families.

    ✔ The Fayette County Retired Teachers Association meets at 10:30 a.m. at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia. All Fayette County retired teachers are invited to attend. Jim Barr, Region 13 director, and LaVonne Chaney, Region 13 legislative representative, are scheduled to speak.   • KC Vandalia holding iPhone class

    The Kaskaskia College Department of Industrial and Continuing Education will offer a “Learn to Use Your Apple iPhone” class through the Vandalia Campus on Wednesday, May 4, from 5-7:30 p.m.
    The registration number for the class is COED 8061 VA01E.
    This workshop will help students become more familiar with their Apple iPhones. They will learn to add applications and send text messages, emails and pictures.

  • KC hosting free family violence training

    The Kaskaskia College Industrial and Continuing Education Department is partnering with the Illinois Family Violence Coordinating Council from the Fourth Judicial Circuit for a free training for EMS personnel, first responders and home health care providers on Thursday, May 5, from 1-4 p.m. in the Life Long Learning Center on the Kaskaskia College main campus.
