  • Vandalia Main Street gains national accreditation

    Vandalia Main Street has been designated as an accredited National Main Street Program for meeting the commercial district revitalization performance standards set by the National Trust Main Street Center.
    Each year, the National Trust and its partners announce the list of accredited Main Street programs that have built strong revitalization organizations and demonstrate their ability in using the Main Street Four-Point Approach methodology for strengthening their local economy and protecting their historic buildings.

    LaNeil and Billie Worker of Vandalia are the parents of a girl born at 9:49 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, at Missouri Baptist Medical Center in St. Louis.
    She weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces and was 20½ inches long. She was named Jaesa Jolynn.
    She has one brother, 9-year-old Kaelyb, and two sisters, 11-year-old Jaedyn and 6-year-old Billye.

  • Arrests from Sheriff's Log-Aug. 11

    • Cory A. Bunker, 17, 1604 W. Fillmore St., Vandalia, was arrested on Aug. 10 on a charge of unlawful use of a weapon/bomb (two counts). No bond amount was listed.
    • Will J. Harre, 22, RR 2, Brownstown, was arrested on Aug. 10 on a charge of unlawful use of a weapon/bomb (two counts). No bond amount was listed.
    • Shane H. Cozadd, 31, Kewanee, was arrested on Aug. 10 on charges of driving while his license is suspended or revoked and public indecency. Bond was $1,000.

  • Jack and Jerry Bail, 60th birthdays

    Jack Bail of St. Elmo and Jerry Bail of Shabbona, celebrated their 60th birthday on July 18. They spent a weekend at Bail Cottage near St. Elmo.
    On Saturday evening, a family dinner was served. On Sunday, the dinner included extended family members.
    Attending were brothers, Jim and Linda Bail of Chelsea, Mich., and Scott, Sharon, Jason and Justin Bail, all of Indiana, along with their mother, Erma and Jim Budlove of San Diego, Calif.
