  • BES participates in Walk at School Day

    Brownstown Elementary School joined schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to/at School Day on Oct. 6.
    Approximately 181 students from Brownstown Elementary School, directed by Sandra Stine, physical education teacher, walked at school during PE time.
    Giveaways were given to all students who participated in the walking by the Brownstown Village Board, and apples were donated by Masons Masonry in Brownstown.

  • Sweet Peas Consignment Boutique Ribbon-Cutting

    A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last Thursday at Sweet Peas Consignment Boutique in Vandalia. The store, owned by Robbi Meade, center, sells like-new clothing and accessories from infant through juniors sizes. The shop is located at 1611 Veterans Ave., next to Los Amigos. To Meade's left are her daughter, Kylie Meade, and her mother, Pam Dammerman. Hours are 10-6 Monday through Friday and 10-4 Saturdays.

    Sandy Michel of Vandalia GMAC Real Estate of Vandalia was installed as vice chairman of the Greater Gateway Association of Realtors at the association's recent annual installment banquet in Collinsville.
    At the ceremony, immediate past chairman of the association's board, Rick Edwards of Century 21 Seniker-Edwards, turned over the gavel to newly elected chairman of the board Jenni Beck.

  • Gottman attends banking conference

    Anita Gottman, banking center manager of Midland States Bank in Vandalia, attended the 2010 Women in Banking Conference held on Oct. 21-22 at the Hilton Hotel in Springfield. The conference was sponsored by the Illinois Bankers Association and the Illinois League of Financial Institutions. It brought together nearly 100 women in banking from throughout Illinois.  
    Sessions included: communications as a strategic business tool, mobile banking, mortgage market fraud and bank marketing, as well as many other banking issues and professional development topics.
