  • VCHS celebrating homecoming

    Vandalia Community High School is celebrating homecoming this week, with a variety of activities planned by the school and the Vandalia Community Schools Foundation.
    The calendar for homecoming week includes:
    THURSDAY
    • 12:14 p.m. – Dance-off, obstacle course, head-banging and tug-of-war. Teachers will do the judging on the best-dressed class competition.

    Singer Jason Collins of Bloomington will perform in concert this Sunday at 6 p.m. at Liberty Christian Church in rural Brownstown.

    Collins has been in a full-time music ministry for the past 11 years, singing a wide range of Christian music.

    What a beautiful day it was on Monday! The temperature was above average, and God had created beauty all around us. A wonderful time of year.
    Sandy Dothager was at the piano, playing toe-tapping music when I arrived. She played all over the keys...an amazing natural talent.
    Delicious cookies were made by Robin Kistler and Bobbie Vaughn. Drinks were served, along with the cookies, by the faithful volunteers.

    Jackson Reunion
    The Jackson family reunion was held on Sunday, Sept. 12, with a noon picnic dinner at the Vandalia Lake pavilion.
    Those present were: Jeanene Lener of Plainfield; James Jackson and Dixie White, St. Elmo; Ricky and Syliva Pruett, and Ricky Hipsher and Aiden Lash, Brownstown; Marvin and Jean Torbeck, Odin; and Reahert and Alva Elder, Mike, Lisa and Aiden Elder, Carmen Elder and Halie, Ashley and Alisha Lape and Ayla Evans, Elbert D. Jackson, Betty Berry, and Lucy and Andy Marclini, all of Vandalia.

  • Morrison – Plum

    Karen Morrison and Joshua Plum have announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The future bride is the daughter of Iris Morrison and the late Cliff Morrison of Vandalia.
    The future groom is the son of Gary and Diane Plum of Vandalia and Barbara Plum of Vero Beach, Fla.
    The couple are planning a Sept. 25 wedding in Pigeon Forge, Tenn.

  • Otto – Berkheimer

    Staci Otto of Ramsey and Brent Berkheimer of Trilla were united in marriage at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 20, 2010, on the beach in Mexico Beach, Fla., in a double-ring ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of Leon and Cathy Otto of Ramsey.
    She is a 2004 graduate of Ramsey High School and a 2007 graduate of Lake Land College with an associate's degree in science. She is currently employed by K.C. Summers in Mattoon.
    The groom is the son of Tim and Deb Berkheimer of Trilla.
