  • 2:40 p.m., Thursday: St. Elmo Schools Schedule

    St. Elmo School District’s Calendar for February 4th has been modified.

    Students will not attend school on Friday, February 4th due to a change in the calendar.  Friday instead will be set as a Teacher Inservice Day.

  • Sports cancellations -- Thursday, Feb. 3

    The following Vandalia athletic events have been canceled for Thursday, Feb. 3

    •Boys basketball against Altamont is canceled and rescheduled for Feb. 17.
    •Junior high volleyball against Pana is canceled.

  • Durbin – 72nd Anniversary

    Clifford and Daisy Durbin of St. Elmo celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary on Wednesday, Feb. 2.
    Clifford and the former Daisy Hopper were married on Feb. 2, 1939, at the Fayette County Courthouse, with Judge Charlie Myers officiating, this being the first wedding that Judge Myers had preformed. Their attendants were Adele Kelly and Mary C. Grey.  
    After being married, the Durbins settled in rural St. Elmo. Cliff drove the school bus for 26 years and farmed, and Daisy was a homemaker.

  • Listen to Christ, and also listen to each other

    Good listening is an art.  Unfortunately, there are not a lot of good listeners today.
    And if you don’t think so, ask yourself how many times you say something and have to repeat it.  You say something,  and the response is “Hmmm?” or “What did you say?”
    It’s frustrating when people don’t listen.  Sometimes it’s easier not to talk than to have to repeat things because people won’t listen.
