  • KC Vandalia KICK programs

    The Office of Continuing/Community Education at Kaskaskia College has announced the schedule for KICK classes to be held in June at the Vandalia Campus located at 2310 W. Fillmore Street in Vandalia.
    Babysitting – Kids ages 13 and up will learn basic CPR and first aid, practical skills from changing diapers to small meal preparation and fun games to keep those little ones entertained.
    At the end of this course, you will leave with your own babysitting kit and everything you need to be a great sitter.

  • Brownstown man dies in Tuesday wreck

    A Brownstown man died from injuries sustained in a one-vehicle accident on Tuesday evening.
    According to the Illinois State Police, Kenneth W. Eckhardt, 69, the preliminary investigation shows that Eckhardt was driving a 2000 Mercury Marquis at County Roads 1750 North and East 1250 when his vehicle left the roadway to the right, possibly due to a medical condition.
    The vehicle continued east on County Road 1750 North and into the right ditch, then struck a utility pole.

    • Jolana A. Ribble, 29, Altamont, was arrested on May 9 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $1,500.
    • Rebecca A. D’Angelo, 33, 319 Stone St., Vandalia, was arrested on May 8 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $5,000.
    • Zachary A. Skirvin, 30, 1320 W. South St., Vandalia, was arrested on May 8 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $2,500.
    • A 16-year-old Vandalia resident was arrested on May 8 on a charge of criminal damage to property. No bond information was listed.

  • Truitt painting being auctioned to raise funds for city mural

    The committee in charge of Vandalia’s professional murals is selling a painting by a local artist to move closer to its goal for the first mural.

  • Looking for solutions

    The Fayette County Board will consider transferring more funds to cover its expenses, but not until a couple of its committees continuing discussing possible options to address the county’s financial difficulties.

  • YMCA hosting Pitch, Hit & Run on May 13

    The Family YMCA of Fayette County will host a free Scotts Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run Competition for area youth on Saturday, May 13.
    Registration begins at 9 a.m., and competition begins at 9:30 a.m. The competition is being held at Vandalia Mutual Baseball Field & Denny’s Softball Field, located west of Vandalia Elementary School on West Fletcher Street.
