    Golden Circle Nutrition Program, located at 616 W. Jackson St., Vandalia provides meals in a comfortable setting to people 60 years and older and their spouses. There are no income guidelines or any type of restrictions besides the age limit. Meals are prepared by Deb’s Catering of Altamont and delivered fresh daily. The suggested donation is $2.60 for meals.

    An open house will be held this Saturday for a couple formerly from Brownstown who will be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary later this month.

    Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Seaton of Vandalia will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on June 12.
    An open house to celebrate the anniversary will be held from 2-4 p.m. this Saturday at Northside Christian Church, 1845 W. Jackson St., Vandalia. The Seatons request no gifts.

    With two scratches, Vandalia’s Ethan Meyer had only one opportunity to prove that he is one of the top triple jumpers in the state.

  • Join the fight against cancer

    There isn't a person who hasn't suffered the effects of cancer, either directly or through the attack of the disease on a family member or friend. The fight to beat the disease has been a long and hard one, one that will continue until a cure can be found.
    Locally, a big part of that fight is the annual Relay for Life, where loved ones who lost the fight are remembered, where survivors are honored and where the community comes together to raise funds for the fight.

    Last week, while looking through a box that I had packed away some years back, I found a recipe box full of recipes that had belonged to my Aunt Frieda Torbeck.
