  • First Baptist members visit Saddle Ridge Ranch VBS

    The Vacation Bible School of the First Baptist Church of Vandalia is visiting Saddle Ridge Ranch every Sunday evening (from 6 to 8:30 p.m.) in August.
    Eighty-one  “buckaroos” (children and adults alike) are learning the “Code of the West” (and east, south and north) through every Christian cowboy and cowgirl’s handbook, the Bible.

  • Glass recycling now available

    The Fayette County Recycling Committee has made glass recycling available.

    Glass will be accepted from 1-5 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Fayette County Soil & Water Conservation District, 301 S. Third St., Vandalia. The committee is continuing to accept electronic items for recycling on Wednesday afternoons at that location.

    The types of glass include brown, green and clear glass, including broken glass. Not accepted are home window glass, vehicle glass, dinnerware and ceramics.

  • LuLu's Stuff n Such Ribbon-Cutting

    A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last week at LuLu's Stuff n Such, a store selling used furniture and home decor at 414 W. Gallatin St. in Vandalia. Owned by Danny and Linda Kirkland, and Alvin and Laurie Helton, the store is open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is closed Sundays and Mondays. The telephone number is 283-9009. "We're here to provide good-quality used furniture at a reasonable price, so everyone can have nice things," said Linda Kirkland.

  • Dairy Queen receives award

    The Dairy Queen restaurant, located 1413 N. Eighth St. in Vandalia, recently received a PRIDE (Personal Responsibility in Delivering Excellence) award from the Dairy Queen system for achieving a high level of cleanliness and food safety.
    “We feel honored to have received such a prestigious award,” said owners Dana and Jason Warner. “We and our staff work hard to keep our restaurant at a high level of cleanliness to ensure that we provide a safe and enjoyable environment for our customers.”

  • Dr. Jonathan Sones joins Jay Lowry's practice

    Dr. Jonathan Sones, an Edwardsville native who graduated from Millikin University and Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine, has joined the Vandalia dental practice of Dr. Jay Lowry.
    Sones is no stranger to Fayette County, however. He’s been coming to the Brownstown area to hunt since he was in college.
    An avid outdoorsman, he enjoys “hunting, fishing and anything outdoors.” He also has a speedboat that he’s rebuilt from the ground up.
