  • Black – 65 Years

    The Rev. and Mrs. Eugene Black of Mattoon, and formerly of St. Elmo, will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary on Sept. 9.
    A family celebration is being planned for Sunday, Sept. 12.
    Their children and grandchildren are holding a card shower for them in celebration of the anniversary, as well as a celebration of 64 years of ministry in the United Methodist Church.
    Rev. and Mrs. Black were married on Sept. 9, 1945, in Vernon by the Rev. John Curtis.

  • Church Briefs

    New FUMC service starts next Thursday

    The First United Methodist Church of Vandalia will be launching a contemporary service on Thursdays, beginning on Sept. 16.

    Targeted for young adults from 18-35 years old (though certainly not limited to those ages), the 6:30 p.m. service will offer contemporary music, worship and a message. It will go by the name of Crossfire.

  • Rev. Hoehler ordained as St. Paul Lutheran pastor

    The service of ordination and installation for the Rev. David Hoehler as pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Shobonier, was held Aug. 22 at 3 p.m.
    The rite of ordination and installation was performed by the Rev. David Bueltmann, president of the Central Illinois District, The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.
    Serving as preacher was Dr. Robert Weise, professor at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. Serving as liturgist was the Rev. Doug Meyer, Salem Lutheran Church, Salem.
