  • Two charged with break-in

    Two individuals have been charged in connection with a break-in at Brownstown Elementary School on Sept. 18.
    Michael A. White, 23, of Vandalia, has been charged with theft of more than $500.
    The charge, a Class 2 felony punishable by up to seven years in prison and/or a fine of up to $25,000, alleges that White stole electronics valued at between $500 and $10,000.
    Tiffany A. Hans, 20, of Vandalia, is charged with burglary for allegedly entering the school without authority.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log-Sept. 25, 2011

    • Meghan R. Kessinger, 18, 204½ S. Broadway St., Herrick, was arrested on Sept. 27 on a charge of retail theft. Bond was $1,000.
    • Lisa B. Simmons, 45, 1210 W. Tower St., Vandalia, was arrested on Sept. 26 on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage. Bond was $3,000, and she was released at the order of the state’s attorney’s office.

  • Local man acquitted of felonies

    A Vandalia man was acquitted of two felony charges and convicted of a misdemeanor offense in a jury trial recently in Fayette County.
    Christopher Glass, 28, 1304 W. Randolph St., was found not guilty of aggravated battery, a Class 2 felony, and domestic battery, a Class 3 felony, in a jury trial at the end of August.
    Glass was found guilty of battery, a Class A misdemeanor punishable by up to 364 days in jail.
    Glass was represented at trial by Troy G. Payne and Debora Niebrugge Reimers.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log

    • Stacie J. Willis, 42, 633 S. Front St., Ramsey, was arrested on Sept. 19 on charges of forgery and theft less than $500. She was released at the order of the state’s attorney’s office.
    • Veronica S. Taylor, 36, Effingham, was arrested on Sept. 19 on charges of driving while her license is suspended or revoked and speeding. Bond was $1,500.
    • Eric M. Sidwell, 20, 211 S. College St., Brownstown, was arrested on Sept. 19 for failure to appear in court. Bond was $5,000.

    • Nathan D. Livingood, 23, Bethany, was arrested on Sept. 13 for failure to appear in court on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. Bond was $3,500.
    • Michael S. Alsbury, 41, 206 N. Poplar St., Farina, was arrested on Sept. 13 on a charge of possessing more than 30 grams of cannabis. No bond amount was listed.
    • Amber D. Blair, 24, and Kelly D. Blair, 24, both of 206 N. Poplar St., Farina, were arrested on Sept. 13 on charges of possession of cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond for each was $1,000.
