The Vandalia Correctional Center staff welcomed six new residents on Monday. Those new residents are unlike any others housed at any prison in Illinois.

A judge ruled on Wednesday afternoon that there is sufficient evidence for a Farina man to face trial for a charge of solicitation of murder.

Judge James Roberts made that ruling at the conclusion of a preliminary hearing for Mark G. Fulk.

Fulk, 35, was arrested on April 5 for allegedly trying to have his wife killed.

Well into a meeting held to discuss possible solutions for Vandalia’s river intake, a representative of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said it’s not their role to come up with a remedy.
But, he did tell city officials whom they could turn to as they try to come up with a way to make the intake usable for more than one-sixth of a year.
Chuck Frerker, Bob Wilkins and Doug Wasmuth of the Corps of Engineers met with city officials after Mayor Ricky Gottman contacted U.S. Rep. John Shimkus (R-Ill.), and Shimkus contacted the federal agency.
