  • State's Attorney Provides Body Cams for VPD

    Fayette County State's Attorney Joshua Morrison last week presented the Vandalia Police Department with 10 body cameras, which were purchased with funds obtained through forfeitures and seizures.

    While residents had a final opportunity on Monday to view the chosen path for four-lane U.S. Route 51 through Vandalia, it will likely be a long, long time before they see construction begin.

    “The Illinois Department of Transportation thought, ‘OK, we’ve selected these preferred alternatives, let’s just meet with the public one more time so they can see what’s there,” said Jerry Payonk of Clark Dietz Engineers, one of the consulting firms working with IDOT on the Route 51 expansion.

  • Vendors accepted for wedding show

    The first annual Central Illinois Wedding Show will be held on Sunday, Jan. 4, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at two locations: Carriage House Event Center in Altamont, owned and operated by Janet Ramsey, and Summer Breeze Wine House and Barn Venue in St. James, owned and operated by Tammy Lash.
    Each venue, in years past, has had its own successful wedding show. This year, Lash approached Ramsey with this idea to combine shows by having the bride attend both venues.

    County board meets next Thursday

    Due to the observance of Veterans Day on Tuesday, the Fayette County Board will meet next Thursday evening.
    The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the large courtroom at the Fayette County Courthouse.

    Brownstown Backpack event is Nov. 15

    A 5K run./walk to benefit the backpack food program at Brownstown Elementary School will be held on Saturday, Nov. 15.
