  • School board to meet Monday

    The Vandalia Board of Education will hold a special meeting and a board retreat next Monday in the board room at the district administration office.
    The special meeting, which begins at 7 p.m., will include administering the oath of office to new board members as well as the election of new officers.
    To be elected are president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. The board also will establish a time and date for its regular monthly meetings.

    Saturday is call-in day
    for fair pageants

    This Saturday is call-in day for girls interested in competing in the Little Miss and Junior Miss pageants in Fayette County this summer.
    Parents of contestants for the Little Miss pageant (ages 5-7) may begin calling 427-3762 at  9 a.m. on Saturday.
    Parents of contestants for the Junior Miss pageant (in grades 6-8 this fall) may begin calling 427-3762 at 10 a.m.
    The first 20 callers in each division will be accepted for the pageants.

  • Electric aggregation hearing is Monday

    Vandalia residents will have an opportunity on Monday night to learn more about the electrical aggregation issue they approved in the April election.
    During that hearing, a summary of the plan of operations and governance will be presented. That plan will explain the implementation of the opt-out municipal electricity aggregation plan.
    The roles of both the city and its aggregation consultant, Good Energy, “will be defined as they relate to various stages of the process,” according to the city’s legal notice for the meeting.

  • Murder for hire

    A judge ruled last week that a Farina man should go to trial on a charge of trying to arrange for the murder of his wife.
    Mark G. Fulk, 35, has been in Fayette County Jail since April 5, one day after authorities were told that he allegedly arranged to have someone kill his wife.
    Judge James Roberts ruled that Fulk should face trial on the Class X felony at the conclusion of a preliminary hearing last Wednesday afternoon in Fayette County Circuit Court.
