  • VFW Buddy Poppy Day

    Mayor Rick Gottman, right, has signed a proclamation declaring Saturday, April 30, as VFW Buddy Poppy Day. With Gottman is Margaret Luster, poppy chairwoman at Veteran of Foreign Wars Old Capitol Post 3862 in Vandalia. On April 30, members of the VFW Auxiliary will be selling buddy poppies, with the proceeds going to help disabled and needy veterans.

    Relay for Life book sale continues

    A book sale to benefit the Fayette County Relay for Life is continuing at National Bank, 520 W. Gochenour St., Vandalia.
    The sale will continue until all books are sold.

    VCHS book fair is this week

    Vandalia Community High School is hosting a book fair through Monday, from 8-4 p.m. daily. Parents may go online to shop and place orders at scholastic.com/schoolbookfairs.

  • Vandalia is starting point for National Road tour

    Illinois will be the starting point for an antique car and truck tour observing the 200th anniversary of when National Road construction began.
    The National Road Alliance, comprised of the six National Road states, is coordinating the tour that begins on May 1 in Vandalia and ends on May 7 in Cumberland, Md., where a celebration is being held to observe the road’s origin.

  • Lions' circus is next Wednesday

    The Kelly Miller Bros. Circus, founded during the Depression, is marking another milestone this year as it celebrates its 73rd anniversary.
    Founded in 1938 by Obert Miller and his sons, Kelly and Dores, this traditional tented circus has seen the passing of the millennium and still offers the same great family entertainment it presented in its humble beginnings.

  • Willow Grove holding two meetings on Tuesday

    Martin Culik, senior project manager, announced that Willow Grove Carbon Solutions will be hosting two meetings for landowners in the Loudon area on Tuesday, April 12, in St. Elmo and Beecher City.

    The St. Elmo meeting will be held at 1 p.m. at the First Church of God at on North Walnut Street, while the Beecher City meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Kluthe Center.
