  • Sheriff's Arrest Log-Nov. 3

    • Kevin L. Hughes, 39, RR 1, Vandalia, was arrested on Nov. 1 on a small claims warrant. Bond was $250 cash.
    • A 17-year-old youth was arrested on Oct. 31 on an alleged violation of an order of protection. The youth was released on a notice to appear in court.
    • Phillip L. Allison, 33, Chicago, was arrested on Oct. 31 on charges of driving while his license is suspended and speeding. Bond was $1,500.

    Vandalois orders being taken

    Orders for the 2011-12 edition of the Vandalois, the Vandalia Community High School yearbook, will be taken during both lunch hours at the school next week.
    The cost is $45, or $50 for yearbooks with a name engraved on the cover. Those wishing to order a yearbook are required to put down a $25 deposit.

  • Reservations taken for Women Teachers' Dinner

    The annual Bond, Fayette and Effingham Women Teachers' Dinner will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Vandalia Junior High School.
    Retired women teachers in the three-county area are asked to make reservations  by calling the Regional Office of Education in their county of residence by this Thursday.

  • Extension seminar on emerald ash borer is next Tuesday

    The emerald ash borer is a small, metallic green beetle native to Asia. Discovered in Illinois in 2006, it has since spread throughout Northeast Illinois and East Central Illinois, recently being found in Effingham County.
    The emerald ash borer feeds only on true ash trees. If trees go untreated, the death rate is 100 percent. If infested trees are not treated or removed, EAB will continue its destructive path moving on to other ash trees-eventually wiping out all ash trees.
