  • School registrations start this Thursday

    The start of another school year is just around the corner, with area school district registering students within the next week.
    The first district to register students is South Central, on Thursday of this week, and the Vandalia district is allowing parents to pre-register their students online.
    The registration dates for area schools follow:
    • South Central – Thursday, from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., at South Central Middle School, 503 S. Madison St., Kinmundy. This is for student and athletic registration.

  • Basement fire damages Bluff City home Monday

    Vandalia fire officials believe that a dehumidifier is to blame for a fire that damaged a Bluff City home on Monday afternoon.

    In the story in last week's issue about the Model T visiting Vandalia, the parents of Tony Lawler were incorrectly listed; his parents are Larry and Ava Lawler. Tony Lawler's name was also incorrect in a photo caption on the back page.

  • United Fund hands out checks

    The Fayette County United Fund held its distribution luncheon on Wednesday, with 10 local agencies receiving funds.

  • Sheriff's Arrest Log

    • Brittany K. Yokley, 25, 1014 W. St. Louis Ave., Vandalia, was arrested on July 27 on charges of criminal trespass to a residence and criminal trespass to property. Bond was $1,500.
    • Tyler J. Dunaway, 33. 220 S. Pine St., St. Elmo, was arrested on July 27 on charges of criminal trespass to property and criminal trespass to land. Bond was $1,500.

  • CEFS holds first-time homebuyer event

    The CEFS Economic Opportunity Corp., an HUD-certified housing counseling agency, is sponsoring a first-time homebuyer informational workshop next Friday.
    The workshop, funded in part by State Farm Insurance, will be held from 1-3 p.m. at Evans Public Library, 215 S. Fifth St., Vandalia. Individual sessions will start every 30 minutes; to register or obtain more information, call 283-2631.

  • Boil order for all of Vandalia

    Marty Huskey, Vandalia's water plant superintendent announced this afternoon a boil order for all city water customers.
    The boil order is necessary as a result of the cleaning work being done on the water tower at the country club.
    The boil order is in effect until further notice.

    Lawrence Ray Radliff, 77, of Vandalia passed away at 9:31 a.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015, at home.
