  • Baker's new sentence is 85 years

    The 22-year-old man who initially was given a life sentence for murdering a neighbor couple in Loogootee about 6½ years ago on Monday was given what the judge termed “a de facto life sentence.”

    The faces that will appear in Vandalia’s first professional painted mural have been chosen.
    Members of the Vandalia Mural Committee met at Denny’s on Tuesday afternoon to draw the winners from among those who purchased tickets in the raffle held to help fund the city’s first mural.

  • SWCD selling new plat books

    The new 2017 Fayette County Plat Book is now available from the Fayette County Soil and Water Conservation District.
    The new plat book, published by Rockford Map Publishers, accurately displays parcel boundaries, acreage data, roadways, waterways, railways, section lines, municipal boundaries and recreational areas, and includes an index to landowners.
    A 3D aerial map lies opposite each township parcel map, and is useful in providing a quick gauge to the use of a particular parcel.

  • Missouri man arrested for soliciting child

    Bond has been set at $250,000 for a Missouri man who has been charged with felony offenses alleging attempted criminal sexual abuse of a child.

  • Nokomis man guilty on two felony charges

    A Nokomis man was convicted on two of three felony charges at the completion of a two-day jury trial in Fayette County Circuit Court.
