  • Two I-70 projects slated to begin next Monday

    Believe it or not, spring is just around the corner.
    But, in addition to warmer weather, the arrival of spring also signifies the start of road construction season.
    Two projects along Interstate 70 in Fayette County are scheduled to get underway soon, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.
    The first is the improvement of I-70 from milepost 62, a mile east of Vandalia’s eastern exit, to milepost 64.
    That improvement project is slated to begin on Monday and be completed by Nov. 16.

    City crews were out again clearing streets after Tuesday night's snowfall.

  • City discusses school traffic, parking

    Parking and traffic took up much of the Vandalia City Council for a second straight meeting.
    After the council approved the addition of a stop sign for westbound traffic on Progress West Drive at Rock Island Avenue, Alderman Mike Hobler said he feels that city and school officials need to meet to discuss upcoming changes at Vandalia Junior High School and Vandalia Elementary School.
    The Vandalia School District is moving kindergarten and first-grade students from Jefferson Primary to VES and moving fourth-graders to the junior high.
