  • City to seek judgment against Mabrys

    The city of Vandalia has told a couple to stop its plans to operate a restaurant on Vandalia Lake.

    It has also decided to seek a court ruling on the issue.

    After meeting is closed session for a little more than 30 minutes on Monday, Mayor Rick Gottman asked Don Sheafor of the city’s legal counsel to explain that the city has asked the firm to ask for a declaratory judgment against Steve “Luke” and Latisha Mabry.

    The Mabrys are planning to operate a steakhouse on Vandalia Lake at the bridge on Ill. Route 185.

  • National Road Festival is this weekend

    A festival this weekend in downtown Vandalia will offer a number of activities, as well as a chance for local residents to honor their fathers.
    The National Road Festival gets under way on Friday evening and runs throughout the day on Saturday.
    The festival kicks off at 5 p.m. on Friday with a supper served by the Vandals Sports Boosters. The Sports Boosters will offer a pork barbecue meal and a hot dog meal for children, with the cost being $6 for adults and $4 for children.

  • Mabrys continue working toward restaurant opening

    A couple planning to open a restaurant on Vandalia Lake say that the city council’s vote on enforcing its zoning ordinance does not stop them from proceeding with their plans.
    “We keep going,” Steve “Luke” Mabry said last Wednesday afternoon.
    Mabry and his wife, Latisha, are finalizing work on the conversion of a house into a restaurant called The Lake House, located on Ill. Route 185 at the Vandalia Lake bridge.

  • Second liquor license vote a tie

    A tie vote meant that for the second time in three months, the Fayette County Board declined to grant a liquor license to a couple planning to open a restaurant on Vandalia Lake.
    After a lengthy discussion on Tuesday evening, the board voted 7-7 on the license application filed by Steve “Luke” and Latisha Mabry.
