  • Council agrees to purchase fuel under contract

    The city of Vandalia will, for the first time, purchase fuel for city vehicles under contract, but the startup date for that contract has yet to be determined.
    Two weeks after South Central FS offered to sell gas and diesel to the city under contract, aldermen voted to accept that offer, but to let Mayor Rick Gottman decide when that practice will start.

    Fayette County’s sheriff told members of the county board on Tuesday that he is hoping to work with them on replacing a number of aging vehicles with high mileage in his fleet.

    22/22 Challenge begins on Jan. 2

    With a 2012 study conducted by the Veterans Administration that shows that 22 veterans commit suicide each day, Northside Christian Church is inviting community members to join a national challenge at the Family YMCA of Fayette County.
    The challenge is to do 22 pushups each day for 22 days.

  • FCHD offers hospice volunteer training

    The Fayette County Health Department is offering hospice volunteer training on Wednesday, July 12, at the health department office, 416 W. Edwards St., Vandalia.
    The training will run from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., with lunch being served.

    ✔ TOPS IL 1872, Ramsey, will meet at the Christian Church in Ramsey. Weigh-in is at 6:20 p.m. and the meeting is at 7 p.m.

    A Farina man last Friday agreed to a prison term of 11½ years upon pleading guilty to a count of predatory criminal sexual assault.
