  • VCHS homecoming is next week

    Vandalia Community High School will celebrate homecoming next week.
    The schedule for the week at VCHS includes:
    • Monday Sept. 20 – Camo/Farmer Day.
    • Tuesday Sept. 21 – Senior Citizen Day.
    • Wednesday Sept. 23 – Neon Day.
    • Thursday Sept. 24 – Class Pride Day (Seniors-pink; juniors-blue; sophomores-green; and freshmen-orange).
    • Friday Sept. 24 – School Pride Day.
    Homecoming assemblies during the week include:

  • Knights donate to TLC class

    The Vandalia Knights of Columbus has given a $500 donation to the TLC (Training for Life Choices) class at Vandalia Middle School. With this donation, the classes purchased lower-level reading books and life skills materials to teach students basic life skills and safety. The donation was made possible for these students by donations given during the Knights of Columbus annual MH candy (Tootsie Roll) drive. Mike Sahr, Fayette County Knights of Columbus MH chairman, presents the donation to TLC instructor Alissa Segrest.

  • Kaskaskia College

    Intro to Internet & e-mail
    The Kaskaskia College Office of Community Education will offer an introduction to the Internet and e-mail class at the Vandalia Campus.
    This class will be held Saturdays, Sept. 18 and 25, and Oct. 2, from 9-11:30 a.m.
    The registration number is LLI 7025 VA01D. 
     This basic class is designed to familiarize students with how to use e-mail, learn about establishing free e-mail accounts and how to use the Internet for learning, shopping and business.

  • Partners in Reading orientation is Sept. 30

    October 4 begins the 16th year of Partners in Reading, a program through which adult volunteers read to elementary students over a lunch hour one day a week.
    Sherry Schneider, Jill Jewel and Pam Baker are the coordinators of the program. Phyllis Rames and Baker started the program in 1995.
    Studies have shown that children make more rapid progress in reading and language skills when they have been read to by adults.

  • VCHS Band Performs

    The Vandalia Community High School marching band performed at last Friday's opening football game. In the first, tuba player Patrick Bauer plays on the field prior to the game. In the second photo,Hannah Edwards plays in the stands during the game. In the third photo, the drum line leads the VCHS football team onto the field at the start of the game.

  • New Brownstown Teachers

    The Brownstown School District has two new teachers this year. Elizabeth Warren, left, is the instrumental music instructor for grades 5-12, and Lisa Beck is a special education teacher at the high school.
