  • FCHD gives immunization information

    Many providers are seeing Illinois students for school physicals and immunizations for the upcoming fall enrollment. The following from the Fayette County Health Department is a reminder of Administrative Code changes impacting immunization requirements effective this fall.
    Below are the new requirements as well as a web link for additional information:

  • The Mouse That Roared

    Students at Vandalia Community High School presented "The Mouse That Roared" last Friday and Saturday.

  • Vandalia Christian Academy has science fair
  • A Night of Music-The Sequel

    For the second consecutive year, the Vandalia Board of Education will not include funding for the position of Vandalia Community High School band director Tony Hicks in the district's budget.

  • Visit State Capitol

    Thursday, March 6, was Ag Legislative Day, an annual event for Illinois FFA members.

    Members of the Vandalia FFA organization met with 55th District state Sen. Kyle McCarter (R-Lebanon) in his capitol office. FFA members make the annual visit to discuss with lawmakers from their home areas, the importance of agricultural education. The March visit is an annual event during National Agriculture Month for FFA members from around the state. The visit includes baskets filled with agricultural products and specialty lunches for the legislators.

  • Kaskaskia College

    Basic conversational Spanish class
    The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a basic conversational Spanish class at the Vandalia Campus on Saturdays, March 22 and 29, from 9 a.m.-noon.
    The registration number for the class is COED-6001-VA01W.
    This course is designed for students who would like to understand the basics of the Spanish language to be able to communicate with their co-workers or to travel to a Spanish speaking country.
    The cost is $30, but students over 60 may register at no cost.

  • School foundation is starting Distinguished Alumni Award

    The Vandalia Alumni and Friends Foundation is searching for nominees for its inaugural year of presenting annual Distinguished Alumni Awards.
    The inaugural winners will be awarded their plaques at the Alumni Banquet on Sept. 27, and a plaque will be placed in the high school.
    Criteria for candidates include:
    • Graduated from Vandalia High School.
    • Graduated at least 20 years prior to nomination.
    • Have made outstanding accomplishments in his or her profession.

  • KC will hold open house in Vandalia

    Kaskaskia College will hold an open house at the Vandalia Campus next Wednesday, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
    A light lunch will be served from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and refreshments will be served all day.
    Tours will be provided and residents are encouraged to stop by and meet the staff of the Vandalia Campus, located at 2310 W. Fillmore St.
    Financial aid specialists will be on campus to assist with the 2014-2015 FAFSA application, and academic advising will be available for both summer and fall classes.

  • VCHS play is this weekend

    This year's play at Vandalia Community High School, "The Mouse that Roared," will be performed at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday in the VCHS gym.
