  • 'A-Haunting We Will Go'

    Vandalia Community High School last Friday presented a play titled "A-Haunting We Will Go." The two-act play included a cast of  about 20 students. In the first photo, Chelsey Stewart gestures while Stephanie Boas, left, Ellie Ehrat, center, and Olivia Bowen look on. In the second photo, Ehrat reads while Tanner Opfer watches. The play was directed by Melissa Dreas and Marissa Dunn.

  • Vandalia School District retirees will be honored at dinner

    The Vandalia Board of Education will host an Appreciation Dinner on Wednesday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Junior High School.
    This year's retirees who will be honored includes:
    • Joyce Carmen-Mid-State Special Education assistant director.
    • Darrell Fesser-Okaw Area Vocational Center director.
    • Carl Griffin-OAVC teacher.
    • Cindy Ireland-OAVC teacher.
    • Sandy Irwin-Vandalia Jefferson Primary School teacher.
    • Mike Travelstead-Vandalia Community High School teacher.

  • KC Board OKs honorary degree for Whitten

    At the Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, March 17, former Dean of Nursing Mary Lou Whitten of Vandalia was recognized by a formal resolution as the recipient of the Kaskaskia College honorary associate of applied science degree.

  • Davis Trust provides funds for KC's Vandalia Campus

    A Vandalia couple that had no children, but was very fond of children, decided that half of their estate would be used to benefit the local community through Kaskaskia College.

  • School board handles personnel matters

    The Vandalia Board of Education took the following action at its meeting on Tuesday.
    • Approved resignations of Brianne Henry (OKAW and VCHS) and James Moore (VCHS).
    • Approved the planned retirements of Russ Smock (Sept. 30, 2014), Mike Hicks (June 30, 2014), Kevin Schroeder (June 2015), Kim Schroeder (June 2016), Connie Lamb (June 2014), John Tedrick (June 2016) and Emma Sue Rabe (June 2015).

  • VES hosts Family Reading Night

    Ninety families participated in Vandalia Elementary School’s Family Reading Night held on March 3. In honor of Dr. Seuss’ 105th birthday, the participants engaged in a variety of events to celebrate reading.

  • College Graduates

    Eastern Illinois University
    Nicholas Schulze of Vandalia was among the fall 2010 semester graduates at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.


    Schulze, the son of Gary and Peggy Schulze, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in music.
