  • VCHS Class of 1945 planning reunion

    The 1966 Vandalia Community High School class is busy preparing for its 45th reunion, which will be held Sept. 30, Oct. 1 and Oct. 2.
    One of the activities for the weekend is a tour of the high school, where classmates can catch a glimpse of the new library, refurbished gym and new administrative addition.
    After the tour, lunch will be eaten in the high school cafeteria, and there will be a chance to tell stories, look at old pictures and just catch up on the past 45 years.

  • KICK classes in June at Vandalia KC Campus

    June classes for the Kids in College at KC (KICK) program include:

    Starting Monday, June 27:

    -Tie-dye T-Shirt making for students in grades K-8, Monday and Wednesday from 10 a.m.-noon.

    -Get up, Get Out and Go Play for students in grades 1-5 is from 1-4 p.m. and for students in grades 6-8, Monday and Tuesday, 8-10 a.m.

    -DNA Detective for students in sixth grade and above, Monday and Wednesday, 1-4 p.m.

  • KICK classes at KC Vandalia Campus

    The Office of Continuing/Community Education at Kaskaskia College has announced the schedule for KICK classes to be held in July at the Vandalia Campus, located at 2310 W. Fillmore St. in Vandalia.

    • Storytellin' – Each day students will explore great children's books with fun and exciting activities, including puppetry, creative dramatics, movement, music and crafts.

    Brooke Knebel-Renfro graduated from Lincoln Land Community College on May 13 with an associate’s degree in arts and graphic design.

  • Area students honored at Illinois College

    Illinois College
    Three area residents were among the students Illinois College recognized for academic excellence on April 29 when the liberal arts college held its annual Celebration of Excellence.
    • Whitney Hagy, a senior, was awarded membership into Kappa Delta Pi, the education national honors society.
    Hagy is a graduate of Vandalia Community High School, and is the daughter of Elizabeth Deutsch and Mark Hagy, both of Vandalia.

  • Parrish awarded scholarship

    Taylor Parrish, a 2011 Vandalia Community High School graduate, has been awarded a trustee scholarship from Franklin College.

  • Archery club moves range; shoot is Saturday

    The South Central Archery Club has moved its 3D archery range to the circle drive at Stephen A. Forbes State Park, and its next shoot is this Saturday.
    Registration times for the first shoot at the new location are unchanged, 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
    Cash prizes will be given to the top shooters in each of five classes.

  • Brownstown Alumni Reunion

    The Brownstown Alumni Reunion will be held on Saturday, July 16, at the American Legion Home in Vandalia.
    The reunion will begin with registration and a get re-aquainted time from 4-6 pm. There is no charge for the social hour.
    Serving for the meal will begin at 6 pm and requires reservations by July 9 to guarantee seating with each person’s graduating class. The cost of the meal is $12 per person.

  • Dean's List

    SIUE
    Southern Illinois University Edwardsville has announced the names of students qualifying for the dean’s list for spring semester 2011.
    To qualify, a student must maintain a grade-point average of 3.5 or better and have 12 hours calculated (B is equivalent to 3.0; A to 4.0).
    The students on the dean’s list include:
    • Brownstown – Kaitlyn Jo Kramer and Hannah Elizabeth Wrigley.
    • Farina – Meghan S. Glaspell.
    • Fillmore – Kiley S. Havera.
