• St. Elmo Registration

    Registration for St. Elmo Jr.-Sr. High School and Elementary School will be held from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on July 31 and Aug. 1.
    Seventh-grade orientation for all seventh-graders and their parents will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the junior-senior high cafeteria.
    All students, including those new to the district and district students who attend classes in Vandalia, should register on July 31 or Aug. 1.
    Junior-senior high students enrolled in physical education classes are required to wear P.E. uniforms. Uniforms can be purchased at registration for $12.

  • Vandalia Registration

    Vandalia Community Unit School District #203 will hold district registration at the Vandalia Junior High School on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
    Parents who have access to the Internet can go to the school website, www.vcs.fayette.k12.il.us, where they will find a link to TeacherEase, along with Vandalia Jefferson Primary and Vandalia Elementary School registration information. Parents are reminded that all miscellaneous paperwork will need to be turned in at registration, along with their child’s registration fees.

  • Kaskaskia College

    Small business workshop
    The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Kaskaskia College will host a workshop, “Starting a Small Business in Illinois,” on Thursday, July 24, from 2-4 p.m. at the Vandalia Campus, located at 2310 Fillmore St.
    Topics to be covered include: how to develop a business plan as well as a marketing plan; how to get organized and maintain records; determining the form of your business structure; and legal and financial basics.

  • VCHS class of '84 sets reunion

    The Vandalia Community High School class of 1984 will hold its 30-year reunion Aug. 1-2.
    Plans include a gathering at The Copper Penny on Friday evening; a golf scramble at the Vandalia Country and Golf Club on Saturday morning; and a complete entertainment extravaganza to celebrate the 30th anniversary on Saturday evening.

  • Patoka registration is Aug. 3-6

    The Patoka School District has released registration information for the 2014-15 school year.
    The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 18, with students in session from 8:15 a.m.-2:15 p.m. For the first two weeks of school, students will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m.
    Registration will be held under the following schedule:
    • Pre-K – Monday, Aug. 3, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
    • K-12 – Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 4-5, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.; and Wednesday, Aug. 6, noon-6 p.m.
    The school office will be closed from 11 a.m.-noon each day.

    Monmouth College
    A Fayette County resident was among students at Monmouth College during its annual honors convocation.
    Haley J. Wollerman of Bingham received the Kate Spencer Memorial Scholarship.
    A senior business administration major, she is the daughter of Lynn and Julie Wollerman of Bingham.

    A Patoka resident was named the recipient of a scholarship at Southern Illinois Carbondale for the fall semester.

  • VHC releases info on school physicals

    Summertime means baseball, picnics and pooltime – and the kickoff to school and sports physical season. Yet, in the midst of the fun, physicals are often forgotten until school is right around the corner.
    And if a child doesn’t have a physical on record by the start of the school year, he or she could miss out on the upcoming fall sports season or even be subject to exclusion from school if an exam is not completed by Oct. 15.
