• VCHS Prom Candidates

    Vandalia Community High School will hold its prom this Saturday, from 7-11 p.m., with coronation set for 7:30 p.m.

  • Art reception is this Friday evening

    The work of students in art classes at Vandalia Community High School and the Okaw Area Vocational Center will be on display this Friday evening.
    The artists’ work will also be on display online.
    Kim Jaoko, the art teacher at VCHS and OAVC, has teamed up with Artsonia to display the students work on www.artsonia.com, the world’s largest online kids’ art museum.

  • VFW Patriotic Art Contest

    The winners of the Patriotic Art Contest sponsored by VFW Ladies Auxiliary at Old Capitol Post 3862 are shown with Auxiliary President Loretta Keagle and Treasurer Margaret Kimberlin, who presented certificates and checks.

    From left to right are Kaegle; Alexandra Schroeder, first place, $100; Bailey Jones, second place, $50; Trevor Carroll, third place, $25; and Kimberlin. As the first-place winner, Schroeder advances to district competition, and possibly on to state. The contest is held each year for students in grades 9-12.

    Registration for classes for the 2012 summer semester at the Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus is now in progress, and applications are still being accepted.

    Kaskaskia College recently held a spring Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Induction.

  • Pre-K screenings scheduled

    Pre-K of Fayette County has announced free developmental screenings for children up through 5 years of age.
    The screenings are as follows:
    • Ramsey – Tuesday, April 17, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., First Baptist Church of Ramsey. Call Cathy at 423-2010 for an appointment.
    • Brownstown area – Wednesday, April 18, 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Brownstown Elementary School cafeteria. Call Shelly at 427-3368 for an appointment.

  • Kaskaskia College

    Financial aid workshop
    The Kaskaskia College Financial Aid Office will host a FAFSA workshop on Friday, April 13, from 1-3 p.m., in room L-102 on the KC main campus.
    The purpose of this event is to help college-bound students who need to complete and submit the 2012-13 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
    Completing the FAFSA accurately and on time is the first and most-important step to obtaining state and federal financial aid.
