  • VCHS class of 1966 holds reunion

    Sixty-eight classmates from of the class of 1966 gathered in Vandalia for their 45th VCHS class reunion the weekend of Sept. 30-Oct. 2.

  • Growing young minds

    For Greta Krueger, teaching Vandalia Community High School students goes beyond what they can learn in the classroom. She wants them to learn about such things as career choices and being a solid citizen in their community.

    Krueger took a small group of VCHS juniors and seniors to Vandalia’s Little Community Garden last fall, hoping to teach those students about the value of community service.

  • Committee hosts job shadowing event

    The Transition Planning Committee of the Bond/Fayette region hosted a job shadowing event in honor of the national day of disability awareness, Disability Mentoring Day.
    Thirty-two high school students from each of the six school districts – Greenville, Mulberry Grove, Vandalia, Ramsey, Brownstown and St. Elmo participated in the event.
    Students chose one job site to tour and listen to business owners and community leaders describe their career choice and the qualities they look for when hiring employees.

  • KC Bohner Scholarship

    The Kaskaskia College Foundation recently awarded Clint Mason of Vandalia the Steve and Patti Bohner Scholarship in memory of Robert G. Burnside.

    Mason is a 2009 graduate of Vandalia High School and is a sophomore at KC pursuing an associate of arts degree. He is the son of Jim Mason and Tammy Wolff. Pictured above, from left to right, are Steve Bohner, Clint Mason and Patti Bohner.

  • Denny Scholarship Recipient

    The Kaskaskia College Foundation has announced that Brett Ambuehl of Mulberry Grove, left, was recently named the recipient of the Frank M. Denny Memorial Scholarship.

  • School Briefs

    Brownstown Schools seeks Glee grant

    The Brownstown School District's music department has applied for a grant from the Fox TV series Glee by submitting a video online, and it's now needing assistance from the public.
    The grant funds being awarded will total $1 million, with individual grants of up to $50,000 being given.

  • KC Vandalia Campus classes

    The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a social networking class at the Vandalia Campus.
    The class will focus on how businesses can learn to use Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites to their advantage.
    This course will include building pages, security and customizing pages. Internet experience is necessary.
    The cost for the course is $20; students over 60 may register at no cost.
    The class is being offered on Tuesdays, Nov. 15 and 22, from 4-6 p.m. Prior knowledge of the internet is required.
