    St. Peter’s Lutheran
    plans events

    St. Peter’s Lutheran School and Little Saints Preschool in St. Peter will hold an open house from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 16.
    Classrooms will be open, and staff personnel will be available to address any questions related to the educational program, extracurricular offerings, and the mission and purpose as a Lutheran school.
    On Sunday, April 19, the school will sponsor a Scholastic Book Fair, chicken luncheon and bake sale, all starting at 11 a.m.

  • PBIS at BES

    The Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) team at Brownstown Elementary held  its good behavior reward for March on Friday.

    The PBIS team at BES consists of teachers Lisha Ledbetter, Keri Buscher and Talitha Wiedman, and Principal Angela Reeter. The activity for March was a game of "Hungry Hippos" for eligible students in grades K-6. Here, kindergarten student Madi Miller is pushing first-grader Abram Austin while participating in a PBIS reward game.

    To celebrate National Kick Butts Day, Stacia Braun at Vandalia Elementary Teacher took her fourth grade-class to Rogier Park on Monday.

    Four members of the Vandalia chapter of FFA drove their tractors to school on Friday of FFA Week – Cody Woolsey, Matt Lidy, Colton Evans and Bruce Dickinson.

  • Emerick awarded $2,500 for FFA chapter

    A local farming family recently won $2,500 for the Vandalia FFA chapter.

  • Sectional Champions

    The South Central High School scholar bowl team won regional and sectional competitions to advance to the 32nd annual Illinois Masonic Academic Bowl on March 7 at Bloomington High School.

  • Applications now being accepted for Head Start

    C.E.F.S. Head Start 0-5 Program is a federally-funded program that provides comprehensive classroom and home-based educational services to pregnant women and children ages 0-5 including those with significant or multiple special needs.
    The C.E.F.S. Head Start 0-5 Program is located at 1902 Progress West Ave. in Vandalia. Preschool center-based classes are provided in either the morning or afternoon, Monday through Thursday.

  • Dennis Wollin eligible for state Geography Bee

    Dennis Wollin of St. Peter’s Lutheran School has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2015 Illinois State Geography Bee.
    The National Geographic Bee is sponsored by Google and Plum Creek. The State competition will be held at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn on Friday, March 27.
    This is the second level of the National Geographic Bee competition, which is now in its 27th year.
