  • Vandalia School District retirees will be honored at dinner

    The Vandalia Board of Education will host an Appreciation Dinner on Wednesday, April 6, at 6:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Junior High School.
    This year's retirees who will be honored includes:
    • Joyce Carmen-Mid-State Special Education assistant director.
    • Darrell Fesser-Okaw Area Vocational Center director.
    • Carl Griffin-OAVC teacher.
    • Cindy Ireland-OAVC teacher.
    • Sandy Irwin-Vandalia Jefferson Primary School teacher.
    • Mike Travelstead-Vandalia Community High School teacher.

  • KC Board OKs honorary degree for Whitten

    At the Kaskaskia College Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday, March 17, former Dean of Nursing Mary Lou Whitten of Vandalia was recognized by a formal resolution as the recipient of the Kaskaskia College honorary associate of applied science degree.

  • School board handles personnel matters

    The Vandalia Board of Education took the following action at its meeting on Tuesday.
    • Approved resignations of Brianne Henry (OKAW and VCHS) and James Moore (VCHS).
    • Approved the planned retirements of Russ Smock (Sept. 30, 2014), Mike Hicks (June 30, 2014), Kevin Schroeder (June 2015), Kim Schroeder (June 2016), Connie Lamb (June 2014), John Tedrick (June 2016) and Emma Sue Rabe (June 2015).

    Eastern Illinois University
    Nicholas Schulze of Vandalia was among the fall 2010 semester graduates at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.


    Schulze, the son of Gary and Peggy Schulze, graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor's degree in music.

    Financial aid workshop
    Kaskaskia College Financial Aid will be hosting half-day sessions for professional development opportunities designed to help high school counselors, community organization members, financial aid administrators and other professionals involved in assisting Illinois students and their families along the path to college.
    The workshop is designed to help build an understanding of financial aid concepts, whether the student is new to financial aid or a seasoned professional seeking a refresher.

    McKendree University
    Chelsy Durbin of St. Elmo was named to the dean’s list for the fall 2010 semester at McKendree University in Lebanon.
    Durbin, a 2008 graduate of St. Elmo High School, is the daughter of Charlie and Nancy Durbin.
