    Jonathan Denning graduated magna cum laude from the School of Engineering at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville on May 5.

    Denning is the son of Howard and May Denning of Vandalia, and the grandson of Dwight and Darla Denning of Vandalia, and Erlinda Samson of Sacramento, Calif.

  • SCHS student seeking votes on Facebook

    Area residents are being asked to vote on Facebook for a South Central High School student who is a finalist for a Congressional art competition.
    Alex Woolridge of Farina is one of six finalists for the 19th District Congressional Art Competition sponsored by Congressman John Shimkus.
    Woolridge’s “Arch of Peace” is a 21-inch-by-24½ -inch oil painting.

  • SCHS Play is This Weekend

    The South Central production of "The Wizard of Oz" is set for 7 p.m. on Friday and at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday in the South Central Middle School gym.

    Admission is $2 for students and $4 for adults.Saturday matinee admission is $1. In front are Sierra Nannini, Terese  Kreke, Yuka Takata and sponsor Lorna Stowers. In the middle row are Victoria Hensen, Breanna Hester, Amber Hays, Chelsea McElroy and Abby Sauter. In back are Natalie Chapman, Matt Nowakowski, Jon Jahraus, Steven Mays, Robby Bennett, Rachel O'Leary, Zach Spencer and Frances Hebron.

  • KC Vandalia holds Arbor Day Celebration

    Kaskaskia College held Arbor Day celebrations at its main campus and at the Vandalia Center last week. The photos here are from the Vandalia Center celebration.

    In the first photo, KC President Dr. James Underwood talks about the importance of the college's adjunct faculty during the dedication of a tree in those faculty members' honor. In the second photo, Mary Schulze, director of the Vandalia KC Center, points out the trees on the campus grounds, as well as planned future plantings. A tree was also dedicated in Schulze's honor.
