    Kaskaskia College
    Kaskaskia College has announced its academic honor rolls for the 2015 fall semester.
    The names of the students who complete a minimum of 12 semester hours in all courses for which the student registered and earn a 4.0 current semester grade average are published at the end of the semester as the full-time student president’s list. Students who earn a grade average of 3.5 or above are named to the full-time student dean’s list.

  • Scholarships, loan available through FNB

    The First National Bank Trust Department is now accepting applications from area high school seniors for several scholarships.
    Scholarships available only to Vandalia Community High School students are: Golda W. Shuman Scholarship; Charles A. Evans Scholarship; Jennifer Rogers Knebel Scholarship; Tamara Gail Vosholler Memorial Scholarship; Douglas R. Rames Scholarship; and VHS Alumni Scholarship.
    The VFW Post 3862 of Vandalia offers a scholarship to sons, daughters or grandchildren of its members.

  • Honor Rolls

    At its regular meeting last Tuesday, the Fayette County Board approved language changes for the positions of chief deputy and jail administrator in the contract with the Fraternal Order of Police.
    Under the resolution approved by the board, “classification seniority shall cease to accumulate for the period during which any employee holds the chief deputy or jail administrator position.”

  • Burnside scholarship established

    The Old Capitol Foundation is now accepting applications for the John and Sherry Baumann Burnside Scholarship, which is open to Fayette County residents enrolled in an accredited college, university or technical school.
    The Burnsides, graduates of Vandalia High School, were impacted by their Midwestern upbringing and hard work ethic.
    The new John and Sherry Baumann Burnside Scholarship allows their legacy to be an investment in the youth of Fayette County.

    Basic knitting class
    The Kaskaskia College Department of Industrial and Continuing Education will offer a basic knitting class at the Vandalia Campus on Wednesdays, Jan. 27-Feb. 10, from 6-8 p.m.
    The registration number for the class is LLI-7102-VA01E.
    Learn how to do long tail cast on and knit, purl and bind off, plus increases and decreases. The instructor will discuss yarn texture, dye lots, types of needles and basic knitting know-how.
