    Erin Keely Hines of Maryland Heights, Mo., was among the fall graduates at Webster University in St. Louis, Mo., on Dec. 21.

  • Donation to World Vision Ministries

    Students at Mid-America Preparatory School in Herrick display the total that they raised for World Vision Ministries ($877.31).

    This will benefit families and communities in Third-World countries. The students raised the money by doing extra chores for their family two weeks in December, and donated all of their earnings. This money will go to the purchase of a goat, chicken, life-saving medicines, schooling, etc.

  • Box Tops for Education

    Sha Tedrick's kindergarten class at Jefferson Primary School show off the extra Box Tops for Education coupons that JPS received from Walmart.

    Those coupons will generate $250 for the school. The school also collects box tops and send these all in. For 1,000 bonus boxtops, the school receives $100. The money is used to obtain things for classrooms, such as SMART Boards, prizes and LeapPads, and the school has also applied some of the money toward playground equipment. Residents of the community are asked to give Box Tops for Education box tops to the school.

  • Kicking Off a New Semester

    Vandalia Community High School kicked off the second semester on Monday morning with an all-school PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support) assembly.   Below at left, band members Jalea Paslay, Johanna Walton and Kiah Waschle perform a number during the assembly. Below at right is Gabrielle Dossett, one of the winners in the school's recent talent show to perform on Monday.

  • Parrish to study abroad

    Taylor Parrish, a 2011 Vandalia Community High School graduate and Franklin College junior, has been selected to participate in Franklin College’s Study Abroad Program.
    Parrish is a public relations major with a minor in Spanish, a member of the Indiana chapter of Pi Beta Phi and a starter on FC’s lacrosse team.
    In January 2014, Parrish will be traveling to Sunderland, England, to study the cooperative relationship between sport and culture in 20th century England and how this compares to sport culture in America.

    Basketball cheerleaders at Vandalia Junior High School donated 43 new infant/toddler outfits to Fayette County Caring and Sharing.

    Abbie Marie Corkern will be graduating from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, La., this Saturday.

    Spring CNA classes
    Kaskaskia College is now enrolling students for spring certified nursing assistant classes at the main campus and its education centers, including the Vandalia Campus.
    Dates and times are as follows:
    • The spring Vandalia CNA day class runs Jan. 21-May 1. It is a 13-week class that is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and times range from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. to 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
