    Community Engagement Event
    Dr. Jim Underwood, president of Kaskaskia College and Bill Hawley, chairman of the KC Board of Trustees, are inviting local residents to join them for a “Community Engagement” meeting at the Vandalia Campus on next Tuesday, June 12.
    The event is being held for Underwood and Hawley to meet with area residents, allowing them to provide input and discuss the operations of Kaskaskia College.
    Area residents are welcome to stop by the center between 6 and 8 p.m. For more information, call 545-3036.

  • Tools for School fundraising under way

    Tools for School, a program for Fayette County in-need students to select free school supplies, is beginning its work for 2012 with a fundraising campaign.
    Last year, more than 605 school children, in kindergarten through junior college, were served by Tools for School.
    Monetary donations received from businesses, churches, organizations and individuals are used to purchase notebooks, paper, pens, crayons and other supplies included on Fayette County school supply lists.

    Partners in Reading wrapped up the school year with luncheons at Jefferson Primary and Vandalia Elementary schools.

  • Lake Land College presents Talented Student Awards

    Lake Land College in Mattoon has presented the Talented Student Award to 64 students in area communities.
    This award includes tuition waivers to high school graduates for their academic achievement and is for a maximum of two consecutive calendar years.
    The award recipients for 2012-13 include:
    • Bingham – Kimberly Casey, Ramsey High School.
    • Brownstown – Colten Hunter and Eddie Carson, Brownstown High School.

  • Denning given Outstanding Alumnus Award

    The Kaskaskia College Physical Therapist Assistant Program (PTA) awarded its inaugural Outstanding Alumnus Award to two of the program graduates.

    Vandalia eighth-graders Haley Bigelow and Isaac Daiber were awarded the Vandalia Community Schools Foundation Scholarships.

    They were presented plaques for the $1,000 scholarships during the VJHS awards assembly last Monday morning. From left to right are: VCFS representative Sharon LaDage, Bigelow, Daiber and VCFS representative Sandy Peyton.
