    More than 1,090 undergraduate students have been named to Eastern Illinois University’s spring 2012 deans’ list.
    The deans’ list at EIU recognizes undergraduates with a declared major whose academic performance has been excellent.
    Students who achieve a GPA of 3.80-4.00 (on a 4.00 scale) while completing a minimum of 12 graded semester hours, excluding credit/no credit grades, in a fall or spring semester will be named to the deans’ list.

  • KICK classes at KC Vandalia

    The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education has announced the KICK (Kids In College at Kaskaskia) classes to be held in July at the Vandalia Campus, located at 2310 W. Fillmore St.
    Cake Decorating for Kids
    Kids will learn to add color to frosting, using the tools of the trade to make a beautiful treat. Each student will decorate a cake to take home and enjoy. This is a messy class, so dress appropriately.
    This class will be held on July 9, from 11 a.m.-noon. It is for students in grade 3 and above, and the cost is $20.

  • Country school reunion is in Patoka on Saturday

    The 19th annual Country School Reunion will be held this Saturday at the Patoka Civic Center, 201 W. Bond St.
    The reunion is for all former pupils and their families of the following schools: Bear Creek, East Chapel, West Chapel, Okaw, Shady Grove, Toad Island, White Haven and Wisher.
    A potluck dinner is at 12:30 p.m., and all attending are asked to provide a covered dish.

    Food service courses
    Kaskaskia College will offer two food service courses at the Vandalia Campus this summer.
    The food service sanitation certification course will be held on Saturdays, July 7 and 14, from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. The registration number for the class is COOK 074 VA01W.
    A food service sanitation refresher class will be held on Saturday, July 7, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The registration number is COOK 075 VA01W.
    These courses are designed to provide the student with vital sanitary information applying to food service management.

  • IPA Award Recipients

    The Illinois Principals Association-Kaskaskia Region recognized supporters of education and the IPA at its 16th annual Member Awards Dinner in April in Hillsboro.

  • Vandalia Campus is host for KC's first community meeting

    Kaskaskia College began its first of a series of Community Engagement Meetings with a gathering at the college’s Vandalia Campus on Tuesday, June 12.
    The meeting kicked off a round of open community forums with the Board of Trustees Chairman John W. Hawley and KC President Dr. Jim Underwood.  The forums will continue in the coming weeks, with meetings scheduled for Greenville on June 26 and Salem on July 10.
    “We are interested in hearing from our communities,” Underwood said.

  • LLC Dental Hygiene Grads

    At the 2012 Lake Land College associate degree in the dental hygiene pinning ceremony, 25 dental hygiene graduates received their pins.

    During the ceremony, Casey Carlberg of Effingham (left) and Hailey Carson of St. Elmo (right) were inducted into the Sigma Phi Alpha Dental Hygiene Society. Those honored during the ceremony included Carson and Kayla VonBehren of St. Peter.

  • VFW Scholarship Winner at BHS

    Jeb Smail of Brownstown V.F.W. Post 9770, left, presented Ashley Lakin, right, a scholarship check at the Brownstown High School awards recognition ceremony in May.

    Lakin was the winner of the Voice of Democracy essay competition for BHS.

  • BHS Art Project

    The Brownstown Community Unit School District No. 201 Foundation sponsored a project through which art I and art II students at Brownstown High School created sculptures in the style of famous artist Alberto Giocometti.

  • KC Cosmetology Graduates

    Kaskaskia College recently held a pinning ceremony honoring the 2012 graduates of the Cosmetology Program.
