    All-School Reunion banquet is Sept. 22

    Reservations are now being accepted for the banquet being held as part of the Vandalia Community High School All-School Reunion.
    The reunion is held during the VCHS homecoming weekend, with the banquet set for the evening of Saturday, Sept. 22, at the American Legion Home in Vandalia
    A social hour with a cash bar and hors d'oeuvres will be held from 5-6:30 p.m., and dinner is from 6:30-8 p.m.

  • First Day of School in Brownstown

    The Brownstown School District got the new school year under way last week.

    In the first photo, sophomore Ryan Skinner was the first student spotted upstairs at Brownstown High School on Thursday, the first student attendance day. In the second photo, senior Ashton Smith arrived at Brownstown High School with her school supplies ... and a smile. In the third photo, Brownstown Elementary School third-grade teacher Lesli Lloyd is shown with two of her students, Dillan Powell and Larissa Moulton.     The new USDA meal pattern regulations require schools to serve more vegetables and whole grains.
    The Vandalia School District will be incorporating a variety of different vegetables and whole grain products into its menus to follow those regulations.
    District cafeteria personnel hope the students will try these new vegetables and whole grains, and create healthier eating habits for themselves.
    Thursday, Aug. 16 – No school – teachers’ inservice.
    Friday, Aug. 17 – No breakfast or lunch – early dismissal.

    Fall PE classes
    Kaskaskia College and the Fayette County YMCA will be offering a variety of physical education classes for the upcoming fall semester.
    Courses include:
    • Jogging – This course is an individualized program of running activities for self-motivated runners.
    Each student will meet with the instructor. At that time, a schedule of training sessions will be agreed upon for the semester.

    The Vandalia Community High School band prepared for the upcoming marching season with a camp last week.

    A pinning ceremony for new Licensed Practical Nursing graduates was held on July 17 at Kaskaskia College’s Jane Knight Auditorium.
