    Late-starting classes
    The Kaskaskia College Vandalia Education Center has announced a list of late-starting classes that will be offered for the summer semester.
    The classes include: food service sanitation certificate (COOK 074); food service sanitation refresher (COOK 075); and basic life support (PARM 111).

    UM-St. Louis College
    of Optometry
    Lacey Leann Feezel of Brownstown is among the May graduates at the University of Missouri-College of Optometry.
    While a student at the college, Feezel was a member of Beta Sigma Kappa, 2010-13; American Optometric Student Association, 2009-13; Student Volunteer Optometric Services for Humanity, 2009-13; and National Optometric Student Association, 2010-13.
    She plans to join an optometric practice in Effingham.

    The Office of Continuing/Community Education at Kaskaskia College has announced the schedule for KICK classes in June at the Vandalia Campus, located at 2310 W. Fillmore St. in Vandalia.

    Utah concealed carry course
    Kaskaskia College will offer a Utah concealed carry course on Saturday, June 29, from 8 a.m.-noon, at the KC Vandalia Campus.
    The Utah CFP permit training class takes four hours. Firing of a firearm is not required to obtain the non-resident Utah concealed firearm permit. The permit is valid for five years, and training is not required for renewal.

  • Johnson picked for Boys State

    Crawford-Hale American Legion Post 95 in Vandalia selected Justin Johnson to attend the Illinois 78th annual session of Boys State on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
    Johnson, who will be a senior at Vandalia Community High School, is the son of Patrick and Amy Johnson.
    Boys State, being held June 8-14, is a seven-day, hands-on experience in the operation and fundamentals of government through doing, not just learning. They work together and form a state that is unlike any other.
