• Painting for Kids at KC

    The Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus recently held a Painting for Kids class through the college’s Kids in Kollege at Kaskaskia (KICK) program.

  • NWTF Donates to NWTF

    At its banquet on Saturday at the Vandalia Moose Lodge, the OKAW Valley Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation presented a check for $670 to Brownstown Elementary School.

  • Brownstown Registration

    Registration for Brownstown School District students will be held from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, in the elementary school cafeteria.
    Registration fees are as follows:
    • Grades K-6 – $95.
    • Grades 7-12 – $120.
    • Okaw Vocational – $7.
    • Driver education – $50.
    • P.E. uniform – $17.
    • Dual credit – biology II-$111.60; and strategies for success-$41.85.

  • Patoka Registration

    Registration for students in the Patoka School District will be held as follows:
    • Grades K-8 – 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. on Monday, July 29, and noon-6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30.
    • Grades 9-12 – 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31.
    The district office will be closed from noon-1 p.m. on all three days.
    • Grades K-6 – $45 book fee and $15 lab fee.
    • Grades 7-12 – $50 book fee and $20 lab fee.
    • Athletic fee – $20, with a family limit of $50.

  • St. Elmo Registration

    Registration for St. Elmo schools will be held from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, and Friday, Aug. 2.
    The seventh grade orientation and registration, for all seventh-graders and their parents, will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the cafeteria at the junior-senior high school.
    All students, including those new to the district and district students who attend classes in Vandalia, should register on Aug. 1 or 2.

  • Vandalia Registration

    Registration for students in the Vandalia School District will be held from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 6, and from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Vandalia Junior High School.
    Each building will have registration packets of forms for parents to print, fill out and bring with them to registration, in order to expedite their children’s registration.
    For those who have Internet access, registration forms are available at www.vcs.fayette.k12.il.us.

  • Tools for School now accepting donations

    Once again the Tools for School program, which provides free school supplies to students who need help in Fayette County only, is under way.
    The first step is to receive donations from individuals, churches, businesses, clubs and others. Gifts of money enable the purchase of exactly what the teachers indicate their students need.
    Those who wish to donate supplies, may contact First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia, 283-0927, to see what is needed.

  • KC announces KICK classes in July

    The Office of Continuing/Community Education at Kaskaskia College has announced the schedule for KICK classes to be held in July at the Vandalia Campus.
    • Arts and Crafts – A variety of fun and creative artistic projects will be the focus of this course.
    Some of the items that may be made are beads and bracelets, picture frames, mosaics, candles, soap and jewelry boxes.
    The class will be held Monday, July 1 and 8, from 1-3 p.m. The class is for students in grade 3 and up, and the cost is $15. The registration number is CKICK 5278 VA01D.

    Blackburn College
    Amy Walton of Shobonier is among the students named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Blackburn College in Carlinville.
    To be eligible for the dean’s list, students must have a grade-point average of at least 3.5.

    Missouri Baptist University
    Jacob Johnson of Vandalia has been awarded the Faculty Scholarship for the 2013-14 school year at Missouri Baptist University in St. Louis, Mo.
    Johnson will be a transfer student in the fall.

    Computer college-part II
    The Kaskaskia College Continuing/Community Education Department will offer computer college-part II at the Vandalia Campus on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, July 9-23.
    The class will meet from 5-8 p.m.  The registration number for this class is LLI 7021 VA01E.
    This hands-on computer course gives computer users the opportunity to build on the learning experience from computer college-part I. Students will learn additional components and parts of a computer.
