  • MAPS Students at Art Show

    The students of Mid-America Prepatory School in Herrick pictured above participated in the Fayette County Art Show at the Fayette County Museum in Vandalia.

  • NHS Holds Prom for Seniors

    The National Honor Society chapter at Vandalia Community High School held a prom for senior citizens on Friday at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.

  • Brownstown band, chorus concert is Sunday afternoon

    The Brownstown School District band and chorus students will present their spring concert at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the high school gym.
    The concert will showcase songs from a variety of musical genres.

    Step aerobics class
    The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a step aerobics class at the Fayette County YMCA in Vandalia on Thursdays, May 2-30, from 5-6 p.m.
    The registration number for the class is COED 5410 VA01E.
    This class will be a low-impact cardio workout using an adjustable step bench for a total body workout.
    The cost for this course is $25, but students over 60 may register at no cost.

  • Vandalia kindergarten pre-registration is May 7

    Kindergarten pre-registration for the Vandalia School District will be held from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m. at Jefferson Primary School.
    Pre-registration is for children who are 5 years of age before Sept. 1. Children do not need to be present for pre-registration.
    Parents are to provide: proof of a physical exam within the past year; immunization records; certified birth certificate; verification of chicken pox or vaccine; diabetes check; and proof of dental and vision exams within the past year.

  • Response agencies hold mock disaster drill at BHS

    The Brownstown Volunteer Fire Department teamed up with other area emergency response agencies to present a mock disaster drill last Wednesday afternoon at Brownstown High School to demonstrate to students the seriousness of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

  • Kaskaskia College

    QuickBooks Pro workshop
    The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Kaskaskia College will hold a workshop on QuickBooks Pro bookkeeping software April 15, 17, 22 and 24, from noon-4 p.m. at the Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus.
    The training consists of four, four-hour sessions and is invaluable to business owners using or wanting to become acquainted with the newest QuickBooks software.
    Pre-registration is required and the fee is $80. Call or email for a registration form that must be returned one week prior to the beginning of the workshop.
