• DAR chapter honors area high school students

    The Ewington Chapter of the Illinois Society Sons of the American Revolution recognized outstanding seniors from local high schools during an awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 19, at First Baptist Church in Effingham.

  • KC Vandalia holding iPhone class

    The Kaskaskia College Department of Industrial and Continuing Education will offer a “Learn to Use Your Apple iPhone” class through the Vandalia Campus on Wednesday, May 4, from 5-7:30 p.m.
    The registration number for the class is COED 8061 VA01E.
    This workshop will help students become more familiar with their Apple iPhones. They will learn to add applications and send text messages, emails and pictures.

    Wreath-Making Techniques Class
    The Kaskaskia College Department of Industrial and Continuing Education will offer a wreath-making techniques class through the Vandalia Campus from 9 a.m.-noon on Friday, April 15.
    The registration number for the class is COED 8105 VA02D.
    Make a ribbon wreath for the summer holidays.
    The cost is $15, but students over 60 may register at no cost. Students will be given a supply list prior to class.

  • Sheriff's scholarship available

    The Illinois Sheriffs’ Association has announced that it will be awarding $54,000 in college scholarships throughout the state to students wishing to pursue higher education during the 2016-17 academic year.
    The scholarships are to be applied to tuition, books and fees only. The student must be enrolled full-time at a certified institution of higher learning within Illinois.
    Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith will be awarding one $500 scholarship.

    Millikin University
    Nicole Wells of Vandalia was among the students at Millikin University in Decatur named to the dean’s list for the fall semester.
    She is the daughter of Darin and Melissa Wells of Vandalia.
    Students must earn a grade-point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale to be named to the list.

    Illinois College
    Michael Wells of Vandalia was among the students at Illinois College in Jacksonville named to the dean’s list for the fall semester.
