  • Kaskaskia College

    Construction project management degree
    Responding to the industrial needs of its district, Kaskaskia College has announced that the Illinois Community College Board has recently approved an associate of applied science degree in construction project management.
    Classes for this two-year degree program are slated to begin in the fall 2013 semester. Classes are tentatively scheduled to meet on Fridays only, for approximately eight hours. Professor Steve Mandrell will head up the program.

  • Lester receives teaching award

    Jenny Lester, third-grade teacher at Vandalia Elementary School, was recently honored with a Region 5 Illinois Education Association (IEA) Outstanding Teacher Award.

  • Lake Land CC releases info about graduation

    Graduation may seem far off, but it’s right around the corner at Lake Land College.
    Important information for students and parents about graduation and preparing for graduation is as follows:
    March
    • Measurements for caps and gowns will be held through March 30 in the Lake Land College Bookstore. The bookstore is open daily from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
    • Students may now purchase graduation announcements in the Lake Land College Bookstore.

    Lasagna gardening class
    The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a lasagna gardening class at the Vandalia Campus from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23.
    The registration number is COED 5435 VA01W.
    Lasagna gardening is a no-dig, no-till organic gardening method that results in rich, fluffy soil with very little work from the gardener.

  • Dugan receives KC scholarship

    Kaskaskia College has announced that Micah Dugan of Vandalia has been named the recipient of the Jan and Jack Johnston Scholarship awarded through the Kaskaskia College Foundation.

    Dugan is a 2011 graduate of Vandalia High School and is a sophomore at KC majoring in nursing. She is the daughter of Duane and Tonna Dugan. Dugan, center, is shown with Jan and Jack Johnston.

    Honoring 1963 graduates
    Kaskaskia College is looking for students in the graduating class of 1963.
    The college is planning a special recognition of those graduates at this year’s graduation ceremony, which is scheduled for Friday, May 17.
    Individuals who are 1963 graduates or who know of someone who graduated from that class are asked to contact Cheryl Boehne, director of admissions and registration, at 545-3184 or by e-mail, cboehne@kaskaskia.edu.
    The deadline to contact the school with the names of graduates is April 1.

  • Ramsey to host choral festival

    The Ramsey Junior High School choir will be hosting and participating in the 2013 Junior High School Area Choral Festival next Thursday in the Ramsey High School gym.

  • BES Reward for Good Behavior

    Brownstown Elementary School students were rewarded with an assembly for good behavior during February.
