  • Sarchet Given BES Honor

    POn Wednesday, March 20, Brownstown Elementary School Principal Angela Reeter took sixth-grader Amber Sarchet to an Illinois Principal Association’s Student Recognition Breakfast at Greenville College.

    Sarchet was nominated by BES teachers due to her “outgoing personality, trustworthiness and high achievements in academics, and for being an all-around exceptional student.” Her parents, Delano and Patty Sarchet, also attended the breakfast in her honor.

  • The Buzz at KC Vandalia Campus

    The Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus played host to a special presentation given by the Tri-County Beekeepers Association and Illinois Queen Initiative on Saturday, March 7.

    More than 50 people (first photo) were on hand for a presentation by Grant Gillard (second photo), a commercial beekeeper, author and speaker.

  • Blood Drive at BHS

    The National Honor Society and Brownstown High School Student
    Council sponsored a blood drive on March 14 in the cafeteria.

    Senior Sue Dufaux is shown giving blood, supported by student council member Emily Frailey. Michele Seabugh is the sponsor for the National Honor Society chapter at  BHS, and Gail Hardiek and Randy Sasse sponsor the student council.

  • FFA Coloring Contest at VES

    During National FFA Week, the Vandalia FFA chapter held an agriculture coloring contest for students in grades 2-4 at Vandalia Elementary School.

    The winner from each class was given candy as a prize from the FFA. The winners from each class are shown above. In front, from left to right, are Macie Zumwalt, Olivia Dunn, Johanna Shields, Anna Osborne, Ivan Daiber, Elizabeth Petryshyn and Holly Lidy. In back are Rainey Wehrle, Leo Krueger, Averi Cunningham, Gaige Beall,  Lauren Hagy, Evan Smalls and Logan Supp.

  • Birds of Prey at VJHS

    Students at Vandalia Junior High School were treated to a program last Wednesday that featured several birds of prey – hawks, falcons, owls and even a bald eagle.

    The program was provided by the World Bird Sanctuary, an organization headquartered in Valley Park, Mo., just west of St. Louis. The birds in the program included (as pictured) a great horned owl, a bald eagle, a red-tailed hawk and a barn owl.
