    Healthy lifestyle class
    The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education, in partnership with the University of Illinois Extension, will present a free “A Healthy Lifestyle that Lasts” class through the Vandalia Campus.
    The class will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23, at the U of I Extension office, located at 118 N Sixth St. in Vandalia.
    The registration number for the class is COED-8097-VA01E.

    A reception to honor the 2013 National Champion KC dairy judging team was held at the Lifelong Learning Center at Kaskaskia College on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

  • New state law requires high school students to have CPR, AED training

    Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has signed a bill that will require cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator training for students in all Illinois high schools.
    The governor was joined by the Laman and Bell families and the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois at their annual meeting in Normal to sign the measure.
    “It is not often our high school students are faced with the opportunity to save a life,” Quinn said.

  • Tools for School is Aug. 13-16

    Tools for School, a program that provides free school supplies for in-need students from Fayette County (including Brownstown, Farina, Ramsey, St. Elmo, St. Peter and Vandalia), kindergarten-junior college, will be in operation on the following dates, at the following times:
    • Wednesday, Aug. 13 – 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
    • Thursday, Aug. 14  – 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
    • Friday, Aug. 15 – 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
    • Saturday, Aug. 16 – 9 a.m.-noon.

    The Brownstown School District will hold registration from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Monday in the elementary school cafeteria.
    Registration Fees
    • Grades K-6: $95.
    • Grades 7-12: $120; Okaw Vocational fee, $7; driver education, $50; P.E. uniform, $17; biology II, $111.60; and Strategies for Success, $41.85.

    Vandalia Community Unit School District #203 will hold district registration at the Vandalia Junior High School on Tuesday, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Wednesday, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
