• Tools for School is Aug. 13-16

    Tools for School, a program that provides free school supplies for in-need students from Fayette County (including Brownstown, Farina, Ramsey, St. Elmo, St. Peter and Vandalia), kindergarten-junior college, will be in operation on the following dates, at the following times:
    • Wednesday, Aug. 13 – 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
    • Thursday, Aug. 14  – 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
    • Friday, Aug. 15 – 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
    • Saturday, Aug. 16 – 9 a.m.-noon.

  • School Registration Information

    The Brownstown School District will hold registration from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. on Monday in the elementary school cafeteria.
    Registration Fees
    • Grades K-6: $95.
    • Grades 7-12: $120; Okaw Vocational fee, $7; driver education, $50; P.E. uniform, $17; biology II, $111.60; and Strategies for Success, $41.85.

    Vandalia Community Unit School District #203 will hold district registration at the Vandalia Junior High School on Tuesday, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Wednesday, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

    Abby Dugan of Vandalia has received the Midwest Achievement Award to attend Southeast Missouri State University for the 2014-215 academic year.
    Dugan is the daughter of David and Angie Dugan of Vandalia, and is a 2014 graduate of Kaskaskia College and 2013 graduate of Vandalia High School.

    Randolph-Macon Academy
    Matthew Sefton, the son of Steve and Donell Sefton of Brownstown, received honorable mention for his performance at the 2014 Randolph-Macon Academy Poetry Slam held on April 30.

  • St. Peter Lutheran Registration

    St. Peter’s Lutheran School and Little Saints Preschool will hold registration for the 2014-15 school year on Thursday, July 31, from 1-6 p.m., and on Friday, Aug. 1, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
    Registration will take place at the school office. Enter through the main entrance.
    Information regarding the school calendar, tuition assistance, Parent-Teacher League events and sports schedules, as well as an updated school handbook, will be available.

  • Patoka Registration

    The Patoka School District has released registration information for the 2014-15 school year.
    The first day of school is Monday, Aug. 18, with students in session from 8:15 a.m.-2:15 p.m.
    For the first two weeks of school, students will be dismissed at 2:15 p.m.
    Registration will be held under the following schedule:
    • Pre-K – Monday, Aug. 3, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
    • K-12 – Monday and Tuesday, Aug. 4-5, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.; and Wednesday, Aug. 6, noon-6 p.m. The school office will be closed from 11 a.m.-noon each day.

  • St. Elmo Registration

    Registration for St. Elmo Jr.-Sr. High School and Elementary School will be held from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. on July 31 and Aug. 1.
    Seventh-grade orientation for all seventh-graders and their parents will be held from 6-8 p.m. in the junior-senior high cafeteria.
    All students, including those new to the district and district students who attend classes in Vandalia, should register on July 31 or Aug. 1.
    Junior-senior high students enrolled in physical education classes are required to wear P.E. uniforms. Uniforms can be purchased at registration for $12.

  • Vandalia Registration

    Vandalia Community Unit School District #203 will hold district registration at the Vandalia Junior High School on Tuesday, Aug. 5, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Wednesday, Aug. 6, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.
    Parents who have access to the Internet can go to the school website, www.vcs.fayette.k12.il.us, where they will find a link to TeacherEase, along with Vandalia Jefferson Primary and Vandalia Elementary School registration information. Parents are reminded that all miscellaneous paperwork will need to be turned in at registration, along with their child’s registration fees.

  • Kaskaskia College

    Small business workshop
    The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Kaskaskia College will host a workshop, “Starting a Small Business in Illinois,” on Thursday, July 24, from 2-4 p.m. at the Vandalia Campus, located at 2310 Fillmore St.
    Topics to be covered include: how to develop a business plan as well as a marketing plan; how to get organized and maintain records; determining the form of your business structure; and legal and financial basics.

  • VCHS class of '84 sets reunion

    The Vandalia Community High School class of 1984 will hold its 30-year reunion Aug. 1-2.
    Plans include a gathering at The Copper Penny on Friday evening; a golf scramble at the Vandalia Country and Golf Club on Saturday morning; and a complete entertainment extravaganza to celebrate the 30th anniversary on Saturday evening.
