  • School Registration

    Students throughout Fayette County are registering this week for the 2012-13 school year.

    SIUC
    Christopher E. Jorandby received his master’s of fine arts degree in theater from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale on May 12.


    Jorandby is the son of Eugene and Sharon Jorandby of rural Brownstown, and the grandson of the late Kathryn Tedrick Brooks of Vandalia.
    He also holds a bachelor’s degree in theater from SIUC.
    Jorandby is currently a props master for the McLeod Summer Playhouse production season at McLeod Theater on the SIUC campus.

  • School registrations

    Patoka  
    The Patoka School District will hold registration next week.
    The schedule is:
    • Grades K-8 – Monday, from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., and Tuesday, from noon-6 p.m.
    • Grades 9-12 – Wednesday, from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
    The district office will be closed from noon-1 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
    The book/lab and meal fees are unchanged from the last school year – $40 book and $10 lab fee for grades K-6; $45 book and $15 lab fee for grades 7-12.

  • Substitute teacher training is next week

    Regional Superintendent of Schools, Julie Wollerman recently announced that her office is offering free training for current and prospective substitute teachers from 9 a.m.-noon next Tuesday at the Alternative Education Building, located at 1805 W. Fletcher St. in Vandalia.
    Assistant Regional Superintendent Bill LaDage, will present this training.
    LaDage prepared for substitute teachers when he was a teacher, and he hired subs during his tenure as a principal for the Vandalia Community Unit School District.

  • KICK Pet Care Class at Vandalia KC

    The Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus recently held a “Pet Care” class offered through the KC KICK Program.

    Students learned how to properly care for their pets. They learned to properly feed, handle and bath their pets. There were two dogs present for hands-on training. Pictured are students who attended:  Savannah Bumgardner (Ramsey), Karlie Schilling (Carlyle), Lahela Jones (Ramsey), Jake Hardy (Centralia) and Gage Hardy (Centralia).

  • St. Elmo registration is next week

    Registration days for the St. Elmo Jr.-Sr. High School and Elementary School will be from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. next Wednesday and Thursday.
    Orientation and registration for seventh-grade students and their parents will be held from 6-8 p.m. on July 31.
    All students, including those new to the district and district students who attend classes in Vandalia, should register at those times.
    Junior-Senior High students enrolled in physical education classes are required to wear physical education uniforms. Uniforms can be purchased at registration for $10.
