    Have you ever wondered, what is in my water?  I know a lot of us realize that bacteria and other germs inhabit our water sources, but just how much is harmful and how much is ok?  What can you do to help keep your water clean?

    Food services courses at Vandalia Campus
    Kaskaskia College will offer two food service courses this fall at the KC Vandalia Campus.
    A food service sanitation refresher course will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
    This course is intended to prepare and meet the needs of re-certification of the food service managers sanitation certification. This course will address all the requirements set by the Illinois Department of Health.

  • Walmart Provides Third Grant

    Vandalia Alumni and Friends Foundation has announced the awarding of a Walmart grant for the third year in a row.

    Walmart has helped support the Character Education Fund under the Vandalia Alumni and Friends Foundation. The program was first investigated five years ago and was started four years ago at Jefferson Elementary School. Today. it is being implemented in all of the schools.     Millikin University
    Two area students were named to the dean's list at Millikin University for the spring semester:
    • Ella C. Ehrat of Shobonier, a student in the Tabor School of Business.
    • Maresha Mitchell of Vandalia, a junior in the College of Professional Study.

    Greenville College
    Shawna Marler, an elementary education major, graduated in May and was on the dean's list for the spring semester.

    The Partners in Reading program is about to begin its 18th year at Vandalia Elementary School.

    Cake decorating class in Vandalia
    The Kaskaskia College Continuing/Community Education Department will offer a cake decorating course at the Vandalia Campus on Saturday, from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
    The registration number for this class is COED 5439 VA01W.
    Students will learn the basics of cake decorating, as well as how to make icing and the importance of icing consistency.
    Students can expect to learn how to make decorative icing flowers, figure piping and lattice work. The making of novelty and specialty cakes will also be addressed.

    Would you know what to do if one of your co-workers, friends or family members was choking or suddenly collapsed? This could be a life or death situation that requires knowledge and skill to possibly save their life.
    These skills can be learned in just a few hours time with the American Heart Association CPR course. This course is beneficial to babysitters, new parents, teachers, community groups or anyone else who wants to know how to react in a critical situation.
