• VCUSD appreciation dinner set for April 9

    The Vandalia School District will hold its annual appreciation dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, at Vandalia Junior High School.
    The school district retirees who are being honored this year include: Melissa Devall, cook at VJHS; Shayla Kline, teacher at VCHS; Emma Sue Rabe, teacher at VJHS; Kevin Schroeder, teacher at VJHS; Gary Schulze, teacher at Okaw Area Vocational Center; and Susan Sutherland, teacher at Vandalia Elementary School.
    All current and retired Vandalia School District faculty and staff are invited to attend the dinner.

  • Dennis Wollin eligible for state Geography Bee

    Dennis Wollin of St. Peter’s Lutheran School has been notified by the National Geographic Society that he is one of the semifinalists eligible to compete in the 2015 Illinois State Geography Bee.
    The National Geographic Bee is sponsored by Google and Plum Creek. The State competition will be held at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn on Friday, March 27.
    This is the second level of the National Geographic Bee competition, which is now in its 27th year.

  • Applications now being accepted for Head Start

    C.E.F.S. Head Start 0-5 Program is a federally-funded program that provides comprehensive classroom and home-based educational services to pregnant women and children ages 0-5 including those with significant or multiple special needs.
    The C.E.F.S. Head Start 0-5 Program is located at 1902 Progress West Ave. in Vandalia. Preschool center-based classes are provided in either the morning or afternoon, Monday through Thursday.

  • Sectional Champions

    The South Central High School scholar bowl team won regional and sectional competitions to advance to the 32nd annual Illinois Masonic Academic Bowl on March 7 at Bloomington High School.

  • Emerick awarded $2,500 for FFA chapter

    A local farming family recently won $2,500 for the Vandalia FFA chapter.

  • FFA Week

    Four members of the Vandalia chapter of FFA drove their tractors to school on Friday of FFA Week – Cody Woolsey, Matt Lidy, Colton Evans and Bruce Dickinson.

  • Vandalia School District Registration

    Registration for Vandalia CUSD #203 will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 4, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 8 a.m.-3 p.m.


    On Tuesday, Aug. 4, the district will register families with last names A-M. For families with multiple last names, the district will go by the last name of the oldest child and register the entire family.

  • FNB has scholarships, loan available

    First National Bank Trust Department is now accepting applications for scholarships.
    Numerous scholarships are available, and all applications must be postmarked no later than April 1.
    Also available to Fayette County students through the First National Bank is an interest-free loan funded by the Ella McKee Foundation.
    Those interested in applying for scholarships or a loan should contact the First National Bank Trust Department or call 283-5224.

  • Kaskaskia College

    Advanced water coloring class
    The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer an advance water coloring class at the Vandalia Campus on Thursdays, Jan. 22-Feb. 5, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
    The registration number for the class is COED-6009-VA01E.
    Students will go beyond the basics of watercolor painting. They will learn more-advanced techniques to become an intermediate painter. Students will be given a supply list prior to the first class meeting.
    The cost for this course is $30, but students over 60 may register at no cost.
