    Beginning beekeeping class
    The Kaskaskia College Department of Industrial and Continuing Education will hold a beginning beekeeping class throughout the KC District in August.  The course will be live at the KC Vandalia Campus and shown simultaneously at the Nashville, Salem and Trenton Education Centers.
    This class will meet on Monday, Aug. 7, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., and will be an introductory course designed to acquaint the students with basic beekeeping.

  • Foundation seeks future nominees for award

    The Vandalia Alumni and Friends Foundation is always accepting nominations for its Distinguished Alumni Award.
    The award recognizes and honors exceptional VCHS graduates within the areas of professional, personal and civic achievement.
    Nominees must:
    • Be a graduate of VCHS.
    • Have graduated at least 20 years prior to the nomination.
    • Have outstanding accomplishments in his or her profession, or have made significant contributions to his or her community or society.

  • County hikes fees

    Upon receiving the results of a cost study recommending that the county increase many of its fees, the Fayette County Board approved those increases.
    The board also approved an agreement to have the firm that performed that cost analysis to serve as an operations consultant to the county.
    Bruce DeLashmit of the Bloomington-based Bellwether LLC told board members that the cost study of the county clerk and sheriff offices showed that fee increases are needed.

    A Vandalia student is among 86 business and management students at the University of Illinois Springfield inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma honor society chapter.
    Noah Emerick was inducted into the chapter during a ceremony on Saturday, April 8, in Brookens Auditorium.
    Beta Gamma Sigma is the international honor society serving business programs accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.

  • Brownstown again offering school registration online

    The Brownstown School District is again be offering online registration for all Brownstown students, grades K-12.
    Online registration will be available through July 31. Parents are reminded that they will still need to attend registration on August 8 to fill out medical information and pay any registration fees.  
    By registering online, parents will be able to update all student information and save time on registration day.
